Skyward Launch Party and Fundraiser
The launch party for SKYWARD was hosted by Barbara and Richard Hagerty at Hagerty Point, Sullivans Island. The highlight of the evening was the release of a rehabilitated redtailed hawk to the wild. In these photos, Mary Alice, with the support of senior staff member of the South Carolina Center for Birds of Prey, Grace Gaspar, releases the magnificent bird of prey.

Fabulous Fundraiser for the new International Center for Birds of Prey
The Wild Dunes Club and Mira Books hosted a fundraiser for the new International Birds of Prey Center at the Wild Dunes Resort Island House Cabana. Jim Elliott, Director South Carolina Center For Birds of Prey (SCCBP), staff and volunteers were present with birds of prey and described their care and treatment. This was an extraordinary opportunity to learn about birds of prey and the new International Center which will open in Awendaw in 2005. Mary Alice Monroe read from her novel SKYWARD, which is set at a birds of prey center, and MIRA BOOKS presented to the SC Center For Birds of Prey a generous donation.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
A Science/Education/Conservation building will feature interpretive displays, classrooms and laboratories for formal instruction and educational programs.
A separate enclave on the property will be designated for a comprehensive Avian Medical Center that will treat hundreds of injured hawks, eagles, osprey, falcons and other birds each year.
This facility will also serve the educational mission of the center as a training facility for veterinary students and practitioners, and as a considerable resource for researchers.
The International Center for Birds of Prey will be a unique aviary center unlike any other. It will be a significant addition and source of pride to South Carolina, especially the Charleston area. Furthermore, this exciting, impressive facility--a neighbor to Wild Dunes-- will be open to the public.

Visit the fabulous new site and see for yourself!
