Attending book club today to discuss Butterfly's Daughter. Loved the story--I am a grandmother caring for my 17 year old granddaughter. Her dad was killed in an auto accident four years ago, mother has an alcohol problem. I related to so much of the story and marveled at your knowledge of the Monarch.

I heard you speak at a luncheon in Newberry,SC, I only came because a friend had invited me. I had read "The Butterfly'sDaughter", you were awesome!!! Told my husband that I felt as I had been to church, the way you described your books. I did not get to speak to you I left early to go to a funeral. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your gift.

I have read all your books and immediately purchase them as they are published. Beach House Memories was captivating and also interesting as one looks back at life in the 1970's. I was a young Naval officer wife and all those rules one had to live by that our daughters have thankfully adjusted. Thanks for the education and for the memories. I had to rebuy The Beach House and Swimming Lessons. This time they are definitely on the Keeper Shelf.

So enjoyed Monday night at the Aquarium! You were so graciously greeting people that I didn't want to interrupt with a hello at that time. My patrol partner, Carey and I walked the beach from the inlet to 9th on IOP Tuesday. After such a high tide I was hoping a turtle would take advantage and ride a wave up to the dunes but no tracks to be found....oh, and another note.... I LOVED your shoes!!!!

Just finished reading The Beach House and I think I'm going to have to say that was the best book I've read in my life. I couldn't put it down ... didn't want it to end...It took me back to a place in my childhood that I was the happiest I've been in my life to relive those wonderful memories of times spent with my beloved Grandmother...I am so ready for Beach House Memories...Wish I could get it today ... On my way to the library to get the audio books of Swimming Lessons and Last light over Carolina.... You're books are Amazing .... Hope you come back to Atlanta this summer. I love your books! I started with the seaturtle books, and now am moving on to the others. I have had trouble concentrating and completing books lately due to some health issues. However, this is not the case with your books! Thank goodness!

Mary Alice - The one thing I am looking forward to this summer is the birth of my first grandchild - a girl - and I hope she drops on time - just like turtle babies - only I hope she makes it right through being a survivor like a lucky loggerhead!! A few years ago, I picked up "The Beach House" for a summer read at the lake. I loved it so much that I passed it on to numberous girlfriends; we have, thus, read "Book Club", "Four Seasons", "Time is a River", "Sweetgrass" . . . (loved them all). How I would love to be there and tour the aquarium. Ever since I read The Beach House and Swimming Lessons I have wanted to come to Charleston and the Isle of Palms. I have been drawn to Charleston for some time for whatever reason. I would love another book that follows Toy and her daughter. Will for sure get Beach House Memories. Thank you for providing me with so many hours of wonderful reading. Loved all the information about the loggerheads.

I look forward to each book you write because I feel an instant connection to the characters in your book...but Lovie...she really touches me. I have advanced breast cancer and have been fighting the good fight for four years...so after reading the first chapter in your new book...I can hardly wait to re-live Lovie's life story. I find myself doing that more lately. But I have much to live for...my son is getting married on mother's day at Magnolia Gardens...I have a two year old granddaughter since my diagnosis and my youngest son will graduate from law school here in Charleston next year. So I plan on hanging tight for as long as God gives me. A diagnosis is just a medical outlook...but a prognosis is the patient saying...I am planning on beating that diagnosis....my prognosis is to keep on living. And part of that living involves reading your books which bring me such joy! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
The Butterfly's Daughter is such an informative story on many levels. Many years ago I took a Journey North teacher workshop. Every year my garden expands especially my butterfly garden. I have collected butterfly picture books,to share with students for many years. After I read your book, I went to your web site then on the Azalea Magazine and the New York Times reprint of Andrew Pollack: In the Midwest, Flutters May be Fewer. I have lived in Illinois, in farming communities, all my life, but was totally unaware of the impact farming was having on the Monarch population. So much more needs to be done to protect our natural habitiate before it is gone. You have done so much for awareness, I can't thank you enough.
You are one of very favorite authors and i look forward to every new book you release, especially this one! The Beach House and Swimming Lesson are my 2 favorite books so i cannot wait to get this one !!

I am currently updating all of my eBook files onto my eReader, (I'm over 7500 books so far) and I have recently received some book plates and other stuff from other authors who kindly signed them for me. I have just picked up a copy of "The Beach House" and am anticipating how much I will enjoy it. Based on reviews, Mary Alice Monroe is bound to be one of my favorite authors. It is so hard to choose just one favorite book. I am partial to The Beach House and Swimming Lessons because of the sea turtle storyline. The sea turtles have my heart so to speak. Your writing inspires us all to be more mindful and respectful of the earth we inhabit and the animals and sea life we share it with. I have already placed my advance order for Beach House Memories.

I shared a story about a Monarch butterfly that landed on flowers being taken to a Pittsburgh Steelers fan funeral. I loved "Last Light of Carolina". I loved the setting and the characters, and their real life experiances and how they overcome their hardship.
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe novel is "Skyward" because so much was happening from one day to the next in a world I have never been remotely interested in, Birds of Prey. How could I have been drawn in so easily? It's the same with every one of her books. I stepped out of the usual into the most unusual. Love everyone of them especially Skyward.

After my father passed away, my mom joined me in Florida where we embraced a new chapter in her life. The Beach House was our favorite book because of its wonderful tribute to the sea turtle. The kinship of the characters strengthened our relationship to family. Years later when my mother passed away, I just happened upon your website and discovered that not only did you have a sequel to your story, but a children's book as well. I was joyous with the title that has a special meaning to me. It was like finding a gift from heaven. I gobble up everything you write and hope to attend an event someday to meet you in person. Mom was and is my Lovie! Your characters are so real. They have helped me heal in ways that have become a part of me.

I LOVE to read! ...and when I come across an author that I really, really like, I'm so anxious ready every one of their books. Such was the case with "The Beach House" by Mary Alice Monroe (I've read similarly titled ones, but liked this one the best!) I cannot wait to get my hands on another Monroe novel...especially since I'm a "Carolina Girl" and can relate to the locale! Great reading! Thank you!

I love your book "The Beach House". There were so may similarities in the families dynamics to my own family. This book provided hope that a families preconceived mishaps can be straightened out before it is too late in life!

My favorite Monroe book is "Time is a River"... I loved how the old story and the modern story weaved together and I learned a lot about fly fishing!
Upon moving to the Lowcountry in 2008 I immediately fell in love with the area. I picked up The Beach House thinking it was just a good beach read. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was a book I couldn't put down. Quickly finishing it, I drove back to the book store and bought all of your books that were in stock. Living here I have been lucky enough to go to several of your book signings. While I planted the milkweed seeds you gave me, and loved The Butterfly's Daughter, the turtle lady has been my greatest inspiration. I also think of you as the turtle lady. You have inspired Me to begin writing a children's book. Thank you for bring the Lowcountry to life for me!
My favorite book is Time is a River. I love all of Mary Alice Monroe's books, but especially this one. It was the first one that I read. I am a breast cancer survivor just like the main character!
Time is a River because I loved the setting in the mountains and subject matter of the book of breast cancer recovery.
My favorite book by far was "The Four Seasons." I truly loved that boook because I grew up with 4 brothers & no sisters and I was amazed and fascinated by the way those 4 sisters were so different and had so many issues, and in the end they were able to understand & support one another. The inter-weaving of lives & importance of "family" was a joy to see unravel. I will read it a second time for sure. Deidra

My friend Karen had been told that the book The Beach House was a great read. We each bought a copy before she returned to California and agreed we would read it at the same time. Over the passing years our emails have included comments about books we are currently reading and we let each other know when "Mary Alice" has a new one out. I have read each and every book by MAM including treasuring my copy of Turtle Summer:A Journal for my Daughter.Beach House is my favorite because it makes me think of the friendship I have with Karen and the start of a book club with Karen, Mary Alice, and me!

My favorite book is The Beach House. It was the very first book of yours I ever read. My mom, aunt, cousin and sister-in-law all read it (as we do with all your books now) and were completely taken with sea turtles. Every year since I was 7 (I'm now 35) we have vacationed at Atlantic Beach, NC. In 2009 we had the pleasure of meeting you at the Emerald Isle Plantation bookstore (I don't know if you remember but my cousin and I gave you our suggestions for a 3rd book - a baby perhaps!) Anyway, that same week all of us spent 3 evenings on the beach surrounding a turtle nest, many night until 3 a.m. Finally, we were able to witness our first sea turtle hatching!! All 14 members of our family, including my 80 year old grandmother who my husband carried by piggy back down the beach and my children 5 and 7 at the time. The day we met you at the bookstore my mom bought Turtle Summer to dedicate to my daugther Madison. Little did we know at the time that it would be our turtle summer! Thank you for your amazing stories that bring the women in our family together to share our thoughts about the books and have so inspired us.
Sweetgrass...While I have read all of your books and really enjoyed each one immensely, I just loved the story about the family in Sweetgrass.
My favorite is The Beach House. The mother/daughter conflict, and he hurricane, just grabbed me.
The Butterfly's Daughter, very spiritual, great read, topped my vacation to Topsail Beach, NC last yr!
I loved The Buttetfly's Daughter. This was a wonderful story of family love and loss, and of renewal. We've all been there and can relate on some level to the charachters and of the journey to find self and yes even love.
My favorite book was The Four Seasons. It was our book club selection a while ago, but it made for a lively discussion. I found it interesting to voyeur into the unwed daughter and her baby. My grandmother had that same experience in 1926 and I've gained some insight as to how she may have felt being sent away. I've gained compassion seeing it from her side.
I'd have a hard time choosing between 2... the first book I read was The Beach House and I thought I'd never find a book that I enjoyed so much.. until I read Last Light over Carolina. I grew up on the North Carolina coast watching sea turtles and it still remains one of my favorite things to do. When I was a teenager I dated a shrimper who I often wondered if I'd married him what life would have been like! Both books are so different from each other, but I guess if I had to pick it would be Last Light Over Carolina. I'm hoping to find a new favorite in your newest book though!
My favorite book of yours is by far "The Beach House". It was the first book of yours that I read and you spoke at our book club at B&N in the Town Center of Mt. Pleasant. That book made me cry, which books don't often do, meaning it was a great book. I've also read it more than once. I got my parents into the turtle watching on the Isle of Palms, it really touched me.

The Beach House is by far my favorite book. It was the first Mary Alice Monroe book that I ever read. I live in TN and am originally from MD. We randomly picked Folly Beach to vacation and I read The Beach House while at Folly. We had the opportunity to meet some of Folly's turtle ladies and even watched a nest inventory. I loved it all so much that we go back to Folly every year. The Beach House helped me fall in love with coastal SC!
My favourite book,,is Swimming Lessons because I am a recent transplant from the north and you have a way of making me feel welcome in the south. Your insight into the turtles is amazing,,,it has inspired me to become a volunteer with the North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol! The ladies are just as you describe in your books. they have always made me feel welcome. To see the nests hatch is such a privilege,, my hope is to see a mother onshore. Thank you so much for bringing your books to life for me!
The Beach House - my favorite. I loved the interaction and storyline that interwined three generations of women. I think that after reading this book, this is when I decided that I would retire to the Low Country. Haven't gotten there yet but can assure you, I will be there soon.
The Beach House has touched me so deeply. I am turning 60 this May 8 and I have been awakened to a world so wonderful that I am can only put in words and I have been sparked to write my own story. Thank you Mary Alice Monroe.
I really enjoyed "Last Light over Carolina". I had never thought about the life of a shrimper, & this story was so realistic from the kind of life the shrimper leads to the lives of their families,& the stress involved.
Hard to pick as I have read and love many of Mary Alices books but i think my all-time favorite is The Beach House. I love the setting, all the info about sea turtles and of course the characters. One can never go wrong when you choose to spend time with a Mary Alice Monroe novel. :)
Swimming Lessons would be my favorite if I can only choose one. I am a divorced mother for 6 years and your book helps me to believe that one day I too will find someone special to share my life with. Thank you for sharing your passion for the coast and the turtles. When I "grow-up" I want to be a Turtle Lady!
I took "Time is a River" on vacation with me to Hawaii last Thanksgiving not really not thinking about where the story took place. I was laying on the beach in Hawaii reading of home in the NC mountains. My home is Tryon & I want you to know I have not read a book that holds a candle to "Time is a River. Well done!

My favorite MAM novel is Time Is a River. My husband read it first as an angler, then when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, he read it again as the husband of a survivor. He turned me onto the book and I related right away to everything in it. Having finished chemo, radiation, and 3 surgeries, this book has always given me hope and I couldn't ask for a more loving husband to stick by me through everything. He is my rock. I have recently been chosen to attend Casting for Recovery in May of this year in NC and the first thing that I will pack is my signed, worn, Time Is a River book. I had the pleasure of meeting you last year and I am so grateful to get to experience something that is dear to both of our hearts...fish on!!
Since I love turtles and have enjoyed swimming with them in the Indian Ocean...I believe my favorite MAM book is The Beach House.

Time is a River is my all time favorite Mary Alice Monroe book! I have loved them all, but this book is dear to me for several reasons. I have several friends who have battled breast cancer. Mary Alice Monroe did an excellent job of portraying the emotional and physical toll that patients endure. The other reason that I love this book so much is that my husband is an avid fly fisherman. I never really understood his passion for fishing until I read this novel. I would like to one day try it out for myself.
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe book was The Beach House. Altough I live in the NC mountains I believe in my heart I am a lowcountry girl. I read it sitting on the porch of my friend's house on Edisto Island and fell in love with the characters, Miss Lovie,Toy, Caretta and their story. I missed them when I finished and was thrilled to be reunited with them and Miss lovies memory in Swimming Lessons. Can't wait for more. Thanks for all your books.

"The Butterfly's Daughter" hands down. So many instances in the book are relateable to my life. I am an Abuela with a beautiful butterfly/hummingbird garden and I love the relationship between grandmother & grand daughter. Lisa :) PS "Time is a River" is a close second. Anyone who can make fly fishing romantic/interesting is someone I want to keep reading.

I loved The Beach House. I read it at the beach in the Outer Banks and now I live on the Gulf coast of Florida and are part of the local turtle watch. It introduced me to sea turtles.
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe book always seems to be the one that I most recently read. Currently, that would be Swimming Lessons. Some firsts occurred for me when I was reading Swimming Lessons: the first summer that I spent in our "new to us" beach cottage on the South Carolina Coast; seeing a turtle crawl on the beach early in the Carolina morning; seeing baby turtles crawl to the ocean from their nest; kayaking in the marshes; and it was the first book that I downloaded that wasn't free and read on my Kindle! I love all of your books. My husband knows what to get for me for Christmas or my birthday when you have a new book out. (He thought that he had "discovered you" for me when he heard your interview with Walter Edgar. I didn't burst his bubble and tell him that I had been reading your books for years.
Time is a River is my favorite MAM book. Fly-fishing nourishes my soul as did this book. I could "feel" myself on the river with Kate. My cousin, an avid reader, told me to read this book, that she saw me in it. She was right! I shared in my sister's battle with breast cancer and so both themes touched my heart. Mary Alice reached the soul of fly-fishing and breat cancer. I love books with strong female characters. Inspiring on so many levels! Thank you for writing this! My dog-eared copy is one of my treasures.
The Beach House - Loved this book! Have read every one of your books and love them all but this one I just could not put down. It was so real and so many of us have been through what happened in that book with loosing a loved one. I love when a book can make you cry and this one did that!
My 2 favorite MAM books are Swimming Lessons and The Butterfly's Daughter. Both for the same reason: they gave me strength again. Swiming Lessons: Im a single mother living in a different city working/dating/being a mother and friend. Life is hard. I could relate to the book so well. And The Butterfly's Daughter: I lost my mother suddenly right before I read it. And at the time I felt just like Luz. The book helped me put my life back into perspective and gave me strength to accomplish goals that I never thought would get done. Thank-you so much! Your books are what I look forward to every night.
The Beach House is my favorite, although it was hard to choose just one book. I spent summers on the Isle of Palms in an old beach house. The whole family went, including my grandmother and aunts and uncles. A vacation with different generations gave me the chance to learn about family history and see my older relatives as distinct people. This book reminded me so much of those wonderful vacations, and the fun and disagreements that went with them. The Isle of Palms is a magical place, and Mary Alice Monroe captured that so well. I also loved learning more about the turtles.
A couple of years ago, my husband and I decided to drive down to the Pawley's Island for the day from Monroe NC. After gazing at the ocean and taking in the sights and sounds and smells that only the beach can provide, we stopped at a shop (of course) and there was your book "Sweetgrass'. So I bought it and read it in one day. I liked the storyline but the way you bring the beach alive in my mind with all the descriptions of sweetgrass and lowcontry is very powerful. I love Myrtle Beach and Charleston and visit as often as I can. Hmmm...I think I'll pull "Aweetgrass" off my shelf and read again !!! Thank you for all your fabulous fiction writing and reallife work with saving the beach life. Bless You !!
My most favorite book is Swimming Lessons. Having fallen in love with the sea turtles after reading The Beach House, reading about the great work they do at the Sea Turtle Hospital at the SC Aquarium just gave me more respect for these wonderful sea creatures that need all of our help. That book prompted me to put my name on the list to volunteer at the hospital. Well over a year later, I got my phone call from the Project Manager of the hospital. What an evening that was! I'm proud to say that at the end of this month I will have been a volunteer at the hospital three years. I give educational tours there and love it since I'm a retired teacher. In fact I go in for 3 tours this afternoon! Lastly, being a volunteer also lets me help with the releases which are awesome. These beautiful sea turtles get to go back home!
My favorite book is "Second Star to the Right" It brings all the wonderment of Peter Pan growing up,believing,holding on to that wee bit of childhood innocence and a fun read. My second choice is "Sweetgrass" it should be a movie. Namaste

I live on a sailboat and just picked up your book Last Light over Carolina,started reading this morning while cruising past McClellanville and finished while setting anchor in Beaufort S.C.! Loved learning more about all the shrimpers we go by everyday. A great read!
2002 I had traveled in Mt Pleasant from Wilmington NC to care for my mom after her heart attack and triple bypass. She had planned to attend a book signing at the B& N where Pat Conroy was signing The Losing Season. She asked me to attend since she was in recovery at the hospital. As I stood in the long line I noticed the B&N staff was handing a joyful spirited woman behind me books to sign. (Mary Alice Monore). I was exhausted after a long week and my Dad was also in the hospital in VA (my parents are divorced). Mary Alice started a conversation with me and I broke down in tears explaining my week. She then signed a book and handed it to me as a gift. The Beach House which I went back to the hospital and read that night. Since that time I still live in Wilmington and have been a member of the Wrightsville Beach Turtle Project for the past 6 years. Spending my summers monitoring and sitting with the nest. I can officially call myself a Turtle Lady. Both my parents recovered and are still alive today. On my bucket list is a trip to Costa Rica to visit the sea turtles. I met Mary Alice a few years ago in Wilmington at a book signing and got a chance to say Thank you. I am looking forward to reading the new book. I thought this would be a great time to say Thank you again for your kindness you showed me that day , your books and the awareness you bring to readers about the environment. Most of all your inspiritation that has lead me to the most wonderful experience of watching sea turtles hatch and make their way to the ocean!
My favorite is Swimming Lessons which I downloaded to my e-reader from my library. I had read The Beach House and loved it so I chose several other titles by you and downloaded them to my e-reader, then selected Swimming Lessons as my next read and was thrilled to find out that it picked up where The Beach House stopped, as I had not read the summary and had no idea what it was about. I just knew that I loved The Beach House and would like to read your other titiles. I have just finished Swimming Lessons and am now reading The Book Club. I am very excitied about the release of Beach House Memories and am planning to attend the release party at The SC Aquarium which I have visited before. I am also looking forward to seeing and hearing you at the SC Book Festival in Columbia in May. My favorite novel is "Swimming Lessons" because it is the first novel of Mary Alice Monroe that I read and made me fall in love with her writing - I have since read all her books. Also, in the acknowledgment page of "Swimming Lessons" is a thank you to Billy Warren, a volunteer at the Charleston Aquarium. Billy was a great friend of my ex and me.

Among all of the books that I read from you which I officially started last year (The Butterfly's daughter, Skyward, The Beach house, A girl in the Mirror, A Long Road Home, and Time is a River), Time is a River has been my most favorite one by far. Besides of some similarities of Mia with my health condition, I was so touched by the inspiration and all the achievements that she gained through the whole book. You made an inspiring connection between a human nature and what happens on each side of a river as a lifelong journey, that I still think about this book a lot and I am very thankful of how you helped me to remember there is more in life to learn and enjoy no matter what happened in the past and what's ahead to challenge. I would have to say The Beach House is my favorite. I just love the way Mary Alice makes us aware of the "fragility" of life. I so enjoy my walks on IOP beach in the summer months especially looking for the turtle nest markings. My bucket list includes a turtle hatching because of reading this book.
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe novel is "Skyward" not only because there is a Gullah/Geechee character, but because the title alone always reminds me to do as the song, "keep your head to the sky." The scenes and the interwoven stories of the journey to locate and heal the bird where those things that one can draw on and be uplifted and to continue to have your spirit soar skyward.
My most favorite novel is the Time is a River. It was the first book that I read by this author and I was deeply touched by the story such as similar health problems in the main character with my personal experience, and the meaningful connection between her personal life, her choice, her love and many more unexpected events with different sides of the river that she became part of it. It couldn't be any better name to choose for this book. It's been over 2 years that I read this book, but I still think about that. It somehow gave me a courage to dig more into life and tell myself that there is more in life than succumbing to the time that slows us down for a while. There is more to learn and cherish those moments.
My favorite book of all time is Sweetgrass. Not only does it explain and /or describe some of the things here in the south, it makes you feel like you are there, WAIT, I am there!! Its also a new beginning for a wonderful couple who truly love each other despite the family problems that they have shared. Can't wait to read your new book. Love all your books, but my all time favorite is "Time is a River". I could really relate to the isolation in the cabin and it just completely engulfed me throughout the entire book. I am into family history so that also played a part. A close second is The Long Road Home.
My first book of yours was The Butterfly's Daughter and I just loved it. It's on my keep pile so I can read it again. It was such a good book, I loved the people that were picked up along the way and I especially loved the old car Luz's grandmother bought for the trip.

My favorite book by far was The Beach House because it opened the door for me to learn about the magnificent loggerheads. I have continued to be enamored of those beautiful creatures and have become a dedicated turtle team member, helping in my small way to assure that they will always be here for future generations to witness.

I love it because it tugs at the heart strings of anyone who has ever been to the aquarium and turtle hospital or ever had to learn the basics of love and life again. Also a great reminder of the fragility of our ecosystem on the coast and how amzing it is to see those babies dig their way out of the sand and head to the ocean. Absolutely beautiful!
My favorite book of Mary Alice thus far is The Beach House - It was so real- We as children do not always realize our parents were human too. I love the way Mary Alice prints facts about the turtles - I truly felt I was there. Anxious to read her newest novel.
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe book is The Butterfly's Daughter. I loved learning about the annual migration of the monarch butterfly and the Mexican traditions. Having lost my own son in an accident in 2008, I already felt a connection to butterflies. This book helped me with my grief journey. Since reading The Butterfly's Daughter, I have found a renewed connection to nature and the spiritual side.
My favorite is definately Sweetgrass. I've never read a book that so beautifully captures the feel of South Carolina's Lowcountry. I love the beautiful history and traditions passed down through the generations of the Gullah people. MAM's books are so beautifully and thoroughly researched, I always come away from them with new knowledge and RESPECT for the different people and places that she takes me to.
I absolutely LOVED "The Butterfly's Daughter!" I felt like so much research went into the novel to set the scenes properly. I enjoyed learning about the Monarch butterfly life cycle, as we, too, are a part of the Monarch migration and nesting area, in Pismo Beach, CA, on their way to/from Mexico! I could relate well to each of the characters and appreciated their interactions and relationships, good and difficult. The novel made me want to take a road-trip, and I was recently able to drive out-of-state with my twin sister! We transported two Bernese Mountain dogs and a Ragdoll kitten for a friend of ours. We met interesting people along the way and also at our destination, as Luz did on her journey. I believe that by meeting her mother and coming to terms with her mother's previous decisions, Luz grew as a person and was better for the experience. The history of Mexico and the migration of the Monarch butterfly is fascinating as well as colorful. I appreciate the tradition of Dio de los Muertos. Some people, in America especially, see death as a negative or frightening experience, wheras the Mexican people rejoice and celebrate their loved ones death which, in fact,honors their life. Reading "The Butterfly's Daughter" was an enriching experience. I emthusiastically and highly recommend this book to friends as I personally benefitted from reading it! Thank you SO much for enriching my life with this fantastic novel of life, growth, death, forgiveness,personal improvement, honor of family, and a journey into self-discovery by multiple characters. It is a wonderful novel!
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe book is The Beach House. I picked up the paperback ages ago while I waited at the pharmacy for a special presciption formula my preemie baby was on at the time. I fell in love with the book and ended up sharing it with a friend who never returned my copy. Several years later I found myself recalling fondly how much the book had touched me and I bought myself another copy and re read it. Thanks to that book I have fallen in love with sea turtles and have shared this love with my now 11 year old daughter. We have visited South Carolina and were thrilled to actually see a real turtle nest that was marked and protected by the turtle ladies. We also went to the aquarium where we visited the turtle hospital. We proudly wear our sea turtle rescue sweatshirts and caps even though we live in NJ. Because of this book I have such a love for sea turtles that I swear I will be retiring to SC to save the turtles one day. I love the companion book for children and have a copy for both my daughter and my second grade. They love it! We have also "adopted" a sea turtle named "Talbot" and we have been able to track it's whereabouts over the years. Sweetgrass is my favorite. Attended a workshop at a historic plantation trying to learn this craft. So difficult. Each piece is a true work of art. Everything written about it helps keep the craft alive for the next generations.
My favorite book is Swimming Lessons. It taught me about turtles here in the Charleston area of South Carolina and I was excited about the Turtle Hospital getting started at the SC Aquarium. I have been to visit the Turtle Hospital and it is wonderful work they are doing to save turtles.
My favorite mary alice monroe book was The Beach House. I loved it, although honestly it's been years since I have read it and plan on rereading it before I read the sequel. I grew up a couple of blocks from the beach and now have to drive to get to the beach (only 10-15 min but still!) It is my dream to live again within waking distance if not on the beach,and to have a home where family and friends can gather and go to the beach together.

My favorite Mary Alice Monroe book is The Beach House. The story is very good and I love the turtle care information. I go to Topsail Island every year and they have a wonderful turtle hospital there. The turtle project does such a wonderful job of caring for the nests and helping the hatched turtles on the journey to the ocean. The Beach House characters are people I would like to know. My favorite book is The Beach House. I am what you would call a very selective reader. I only read books about the lowcountry and the ocean. The Beach House calls me there and I am no longer sitting in my rocking chair but walkng on the beach, smelling the ocean air and feeling the sun on my face. You really need to make the book into a movie. As I read it I could picture Lovie as Vanessa Redgrave, Cara as Rachel McAdams, Brett as Josh Lucas. I have never been to the east coast but your books take me there in a minute.

I think my favorite Mary Alice Monroe book is BEACH HOUSE. I learned a lot about the loggerheard turtles and came to really appreciate their cycle from the depositing of the eggs in the sand to when they hatch and enter the ocean...and how outside lights can confuse them. This is a book that everyone who ever vacations at a beach where the turtles nest should read in order to respect the cycle of the turtles and not disturb their environment. I was so engrossed in this story of the yearly ritual with the turtles to the point where I was anxious to read the sequel SWIMMING LESSONS. I have to add that every book I read by Mary Alice Monroe brought to light things I took for granted. I learned about the shrimp boats that I use to see on the horizon when I vacationed in Myrtle Beach and the sweetgrass baskets that I would see at the Market in and around Charleston. Every book leaves you more enriched with knowledge of things either you never knew or things you were aware of but never bothered to think about or appreciate. I can say that when you read a Mary Alice Monroe book you will always learn something and the information in those stories stay with you a very long time!!!

Every single book MAM has written has touched my life in some way. The Beach House is my most favorite and I have shared it with a tremendous amount of readers who also have been moved. I buy the paperbacks used and hand them out to them to read and also share. I am reading it again in anticipation of the new book. I even flew to SC to tour the Turtle Hospital and walk the beaches. So far I have read five of her books and plan to read them all. My favorite at this point is The Book Club. I like the literary references and also I like the variety of characters and the transformation of their lives in a believable fashion.

My only book that I have read by you is Time is a River. I had never heard of you when I bought it, but you sure made me take notice about fly fishing and how a thing can be a main character which affects all the other characters' lives. Wow!

My favorite book by far, has to be The Beach House. I could relate so much to Toy and I don't think I've ever cried so much reading a book. I couldn't wait for Swimming Lessons to be released and it; as well as The Beach House, left me wanting more.
How do I choose one of your books as my favorite? Since I have to choose a favorite, I would have to say it is "Sweetgrass", because it was the first of your books that I read. I purchased it on a whim. I fell in love with your writing style. Your characters feel like "old friends". It was such a well written book, that I found myself researching the history of sweetgrass basket making even further. Because I purchased Sweetgrass and enjoyed it so much, I have read all of your books. I have anxiety disorder(which caused me to have to stop teaching), and one of my goals is to get down to Charleston to explore all the islands, and to get my very own, authentic, sweetgrass basket. I want to hear the Gullah dialect. I want to also go to the aquarium to see the loggerhead turtles in person. Until then, I have been able to imagine this through your fantastic stories. I have even planted a butterfly garden. Even if I don't get an early copy, I would like to thank-you for writing stories that have inspired me to be a stronger woman, and to get involved in nature conservation. Congratulations on the upcoming release. I can't wait to read it!
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe book is Beach House. I was touched by the mother/daughter relationship and how it was connected to a mother sea turtle's determination and dedicaton to protect her nest and eggs. I loved the beginning of each chapter that sometimes included facts about the sea turtles, turtle ladies, and scripture.It made me feel closer to my own daughter, who died in an auto accident on her way back to Clemson,SC...I now have sea turtles EVERYWHERE at our beach house:) from a welcome mat, to pictures, to turtle figurines...thank you for that:)
Beach House, without question is my favorite. I have always been in awe of the turtles but after reading Beach House, I learned SO much about them, as well as the dedicated members of the turtle teams that are so critical to their survival. Thank for a most enjoyable book!
I haven't read all of Ms. Monroe's books as I want to read them slowly one at a time. But of the ones I have read my absolute favorite is "The Butterfly's Daughter". YOu are there with each woman discovering herself. The migration of the butterflies is fascinating. I have given this book to many friends and family. I first read it on my Kindle and then I had to go to a local bookstore and buy the hardback copy to keep forever. Thank you Mary ALice Monroe for your beautiful prose.
I really like Baech House and the sequesl that go with it. Beach House is my favorite because of the people in it and the loggerhead turtles. I really learned alot about the loggerheaeds which I have always liked (especially having studied Marine Science). It is so important to save the sea turtles and for everyone to be educated about them. This book and the sequels, including your children's book which I got for my Grandson, Joey, really helped in explaining the problems with the loggerheads and how important it is to save them. Thank you for these books and all of your books which I just love.II always enjoy when you come to the SC Book Festival and I can hear you speak and see you again in person.

Wow it is hard to choose a favorite but I would have to say that The Beach House is my favorite. It was my first Mary Alice book and it truly touched my soul. It is a magical book that gives you hope that love really can overcome all things. I was lost in the book from the first word to the last and I also found a love for Loggerhead Turtles. This book was truly a blessing to read as was Swimming Lessons and I can’t wait to read Beach House Memories go back to Primrose Cottage and get lost in Lovie’s world again! My favorite book is The Beach House. I could relate to this book like no other, it almost brought me to tears. Like Cara I had a falling out with my mother for a short time and luckily we came back together to become best friends until the day she died. Unfortunately, like Lovie my mom also had cancer and that is what touched me about this story.

My favorite book is Time Is a Rver because it was the first book I read by you. Also, having many friends living on the coast, the characters reminded me of people I know. I loved it, but also love all of your books!
It's very hard to pick a favorite book, I have loved them all but 'Swimming Lessons' does stand out because not only was it a captivating novel but I learned so much about sea turtles and how the 'turtle ladies' help to save them. It inspired me to research more information about them and I was tickled to know that Mary Alice actually is a turle lady.
Now a close second is "Butterflys Daughter" partly because I love monarch's and have been growing milk week in my garden for several years to attract and help feed them and because the novel itself begins in Milwaukee, Wis, which is my home town. It thrills me to think of those beautiful, fragile creatures making the journey from this northern state down to Mexico.
My favorite book was "Time Is a River". I truly felt that I was watching a movie as I read each line. I could picture the cabin and all its surroundings. The characters were so vivid and alive as they are in all of Mary Alice's writings.
Favorite book? Seriously? They're ALL Awesome! If I could only pick one, my favorite MAM read would have to be Skyward. I was completely engaged in the father/son relationship and I learned so much about the Birds of Prey. What a wonderful read. But I have to say that my most prized book is Long Road Home that I got at Auction at the SC Aquarium. It was the only book missing from my collection and I stayed at that table half the night counter bidding everyone who bid on it. ;0) I'll be first in line at The Villages B&N on May 8th!
My favourite book is the Beach House. It is the first Mary Alice Monroe book I read and I was hooked after that. I loved the story, the characters and the mother's challenges.

My favorite book is The Beach House because Cara and her mom reminded me of myself and my mom. We had a shaky relationship for a little while but ended up being best friends. She had cancer and so did my mom.
My favorite book is Time Is A River. I loved it because your main character discovered strength she didn't realize she had. I loved the setting where she found the solace she needed to cultivate the strength. And I loved the woman she discovered behind the drawings and how fly fishing became her metaphor for rediscovering herself.
The Beach House is not just my favorite Mary Alice Monroe book, but my favorite book of all time. Because of that book, I fell in love with sea turtles. Thank you for such a wonderful book!
I absolutely loved "The Beach House". I love your writing style. While reading it, I felt like I knew the place, the characters,and could feel all they were feelings. I actually came to love everything about it and I did not want it to end. I am so glad you have written the New "Beach House Memories" and can't wait to read it. My favorite book of all times is "The Beach House." The first copy I found at a yard sale while living in New Hampshire and with the setting in my heart's place I had to buy and read it! I loved it from the first word to the last as it took me back to the south with my toes in the sand, family relationships and of course the turtles.
Years later I have returned to SC and was fortunate to meet you at a book signing and have you sign my original copy of "The Beach House" as well as pick up a "clean" copy that I will treasure forever.

My favorite book so far, has been without a doubt, Time Is a River. The way the characters connected, even the ghost, was so believeable that I found myself up all night to get it read. Then I could not get it off my mind and read it once more. The way this woman found her inner peace and answer from the people of the past was wonderful. Our history does repeat through the generations and time.

Beach House is my very favorite. It has all I love in it....the beach, sea turtles, friends and love for mothers. It reminded me of losing mine and how brave she was and how unselfish.
"The Beach House" is my absolute favorite novel of yours! I have, in fact, passed my copy around to anyone I could interest and given copies to close friends as gifts. I love the mother-daughter relationship struggle---one can identify with it. The story burrows right into your heart, and the feelings it stirs up and the lessons it teaches last long after you are finished reading the story. The characters are so lifelike! My favorite is Beach House! My Mom and I read this book after my Dad passed away, we were connected immediately...as Dad died of Lung Cancer. 1 yr. after we read Beach House Mom and I talked about our new found love of Sea Turtles....we talked how fun it would be to go to Isle of Palms...then 1 day I just said "Mom we are going...together we are going to make this dream come true" And we did!! We spent 1 week on the Isle of Palm and connected with everything from having drinks/meals at the Banana Cabana...to meeting the Sea Turtle Team...we walked down the "secret path" to the Ocean (just like the cover of the Trilogy!) 35th street? It was there that members of the Sea Turtle Team met us and our highlight was meeting you!!! We went on 4 calls with all of you and it was pure magic!! To this day that week remains as the most magical week of my life!! We even made the Sea Turtle Web page as we helped count the eggs found and watched the Team move them to higher ground!! WE took a dream and made it come true as Mother and daughter. I will NEVER forget what the Beach House gave to my Mom and myself. Today we share those memories and are planning on a return visit. This time to see them Hatch!! Thank you for your gift!! You are amazing!

My favorite Mary Alice Monroe novel is "Time is a River". Both my mother and I found this book so comforting after the loss of my sister, Wendy, and my Dad a few years later. I also lived in NC while my children were growing up and found the chapters where Mia worked on the cabin in the forest so true to the way I remember that area. The book also reminded me how much I love fishing. Though not a fly-fisher I do enjoy fresh water lake fishing here in KY and the memories that awakens of early morning fishing at the reservoir with my dad. "Time is a River" helped me to remember who I am.

Beach House is my favorite of your books. I read it for the first time while at Topsail Island, our family's favorite vacation spot, where there are usually loggerhead turtle nests near us and of course, the Turtle Hospital. I couldn't stop reading!!! I've re-read many times and have read Swimming Lessons and can't wait for Beach House Memories!!!
"The Beach House" without a doubt is my favorite of all the books. Perhaps it was because it was the first MAM book I read, but more likely because of the way in which the story unfolds. The richness of the characters is rivaled only by that of the Lowcountry descriptions.
I have often told friends that I could hear the sea oats, feel the humidity, smell the pluff mud, and taste the salt air.
The book so moved me that my best friend and I actually took our yearly "girls vacation" to the IOP last July. I stood in awe looking down at the taped off turtle nests, walked those beaches every morning, and visited restaurants mentioned in the book. I took the time to re-read The Beach House while sitting ON the beach on IOP. Loved every minute!

My favorite book? That is a tough one. I have to say probably Skyward. I loved the black man and the mystery that surrounds him. Learning about all the birds, prompted a trip to the bird reserve in Seewee. I live in an area that that is rich with many kinds of birds, so the interest of the birds is keen.
Sweetgrass. I have a home in Mount Pleasant and this reminds me so much of where it is. I love these kind of books.

I first read it when I had been on turtle patrol for a few years. I love the characters, the story, and most of all the glimpses into what protecting our sea turtles is all about.
I loved it so much that I bought MANY copies & gave it as Christmas presents. Everyone I gave it to loved it too!
My favorite M. A. Monroe book is always the lst one I read. All of them are wonderful. When I think of them, my all time favorite is "Last Light Over Carolina" This book touched my heart for many reasons. I am a strong supporter of local shrimpers and eating only local shrimp. The relationships were so real in this story.
It would be hard for me to choose a favorite book by Mary Alice Monroe, because I am such a fan and have read all of her books twice. I was comforted while reading Time Is A River...I felt Hope while reading "Skyward"....I long for a vacation with my sisters each time I read a book about being at the beach and family, such as "The Beach House" ....I suppose "The Butterfly's Beautiful Daughter" is a favorite...a wonderful theme of travel, wonder, and the return of a Prodigal daughter.

I loved Swimming Lessons because it reminded me of my love for the beach,the claiming effect o the sound of the tide coming in and out .Ive always been fascinated by the Loggerhead Turtle ,and the journey she takes just to bring new hope to the legend of the most Beautiful Sea creature. One of my longings is just to be able to be in the water to watch it glide so gracefully through the water .Im lucky enough to see the awsome work they do at the South Carolina Aquarium ,and to see the release of them into the ocean.

While vacationing at the Isle of Palms several years ago, I overheard a conversation in a used bookstore. Someone was talking about The Beach House and how if you liked the Isle of Palms, you would love that book. That was the best eavesdropping I ever did! I thoroughly enjoyed The Beach House! I've also read most of your other books and love the nature/wildlife aspects. Flyfishing, birds of prey, butterflies, etc. but especially the turtles! (I'd love to live at the beach and be part of a turtle team!) The Beach House was my first, but still favorite of your books and I am sooooooooo looking forward to reading Beach House Memories! I have only read two of your books, but look forward to reading the rest. I read The Book Club and The Four Seasons and I liked the Book Club best because I could relate to the women and where their lives were taking them. Loved the way it all turned out. I also belonged to a book club.
My fav MAM book is "Time is a River." There were times when I was reading this book that I was filled with so much emotion. It was a wonderful story and I was so sad when it ended ! Would love to see MAM continue the story. I recommend it to all of my friends and have given several copies as gifts.

This book had a lot of things woven together just like a sweetgrass basket ~ the sweetgrass is dying out and could mean a lost art, there is a loss of a child, a loss of honesty and neglext, and a loss of the elderly being able to take care of themselves ~ it weaves all these together into this story and gives the reader a lot of insight into life from the past to the present ~ that is why I just love this story.
My favorite and first read book of yours "Time is a River" really touched my heart and soul. As a breast cancer survivor, I found that I too had to get out and learn something new and move on. Digital photography caught my eye and has had it since.
Keep up the good work! I met you in Chesapeake, Va a year or so ago at the library honoroing established and new authors.
I especially liked Beach House, the first book in this trilogy. It was especially memorable to this day. I learned alot about loggerhead turtles. I have always loved sea turtles and this book was instrumental in explaining the plight of them. This book introduced the characters for the trilogy and were most interesting. It was also the book that lead to the childrens book. I loved it and still do though I love them all.
My favorite book was beach house. Read this book shortly after my m died of Alzheimer's. My mom & I had a rocky relationship most of my life but in the end she looked to me for her basic care. In the end she did not no who me or my sister were. I related to the characters in the story & can't wait to read the next. Thanks for your stories!
I love every book you have written but The Beach House was my favorite book. It was the first book I ever read of yours, and of course I got hooked!! When people ask suggestions on what to read I ask if they ever read your books, if no I suggest that they start with The Beach House. There is a local book store here in Sebastian, Florida that the owners have said they can't even keep your books on the shelf long enough for people to buy because of all the people I send there. Turtle Summer and its adult companion novel, Swimming Lessons are by far my favorite books. Interwoven in each is the love for human and animal life along with the responsibility we, as humans, must take to keep balance in Nature.
This theme is carried in all of your books, however, the sea turtle plight is very dear to me. If I lived at the coast, I would be a veteran volunteer! These two books detail the intense dedication it takes for the volunteers to help the turtles reproduce and have a chance at life. If you read Swimming Lessons, make sure and check out the beautiful photos in Turtle Summer, too!
My favorite of your books? Wow that's a hard question! I love Sweetgrass, because my second home is Beaufort, and that book takes me back to the lowcountry every time I read it....but the first book of yours I ever read was Skyward, and I am involved with wildlife rehab and loved it so much...and Sea Turtle summer, although it makes me cry...to pick a favorite is so hard, but for the purpose of this list, I'll choose SKYWARD because it was the book that led me to find all the others!!
My favorite Mary Alice Monroe book would have to be the Beach House. It was a wonderful story full of great detail and wonderful imagery. It made me want to visit the Carolina's and experience the gift of life through sea turtles. Your book also inspired me to create my own children's book about sea turtles for my college children's literature class. My favorite novel of Mary Alice Monroe is The Butterfly's Daughter. It was a very moving trip through the country along with the butterflies. I learned so much about the butterflies' journey. It's a miracle that those fragile creatures travel so far. The characters and their relationships were wonderful and I liked all of the interactions they had on their trip. This is a book that I want to pass down to my daughter and granddaughters. I have read ALL of Mary Alice Monroe books and always look forward to the next one.
I knew there had to be a catch - to chose one as a favorite - truth is, I can't. I loved all of them. I can narrow it down to "The Beach House" & "Sweetgrass" but I can't pick one over the other. I love the combination of environmentalism & a good story. After reading "Skyward" years ago, I had an idea of what to do when we found an injured red-tail hawk on our property. I just finished reading "The Butterfly's Daughter", my 11th novel of yours. I found each one better than the last. They all have an appealing, uplifting message---which is so important in today's world. I don't know how you do it, but just keep it up. I am waiting for "Beach House Memories" to continue the story of "The Beach House" as well as the reissue of your first novel "The Long Road Home". It is said that authors get better with experience. But I have a feeling that your first novel (re-issued this fall) will be as deligtful, inspiring, and entertaining as your last. Can't wait!

Dear Ms. Monroe, I picked up your newest book at our library and because I am an avid reader, I read everything written in the book! Imagine my suprise when I saw a name that is very familiar to me.. Billy McCord! His sister and I went from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade together here in Manning. She and I also worked together on Saturdays at one of our local drugstores. I grew up sitting on my feet at the McCord kitchen table as I never knew what would slither, walk, or slide under the table! All of the brothers are terrific guys but Billy has given so much to our state with his knowledge of our natural resources. Thank you for promoting him and his greatness in your latest book! We in Newberry are so looking forward to your visit here on April 20. I am leading a discussion on "The Butterfly's Daughter" at our discussion group on April 10. I have now read 5 of your novels and liked them all. I too am a former English teacher.
In the 3rd grade my daughter's teacher introduced her class to the butterfly "experience". Pretty much every year after that we had butterflies at home & she continued even when she had children. She & I often would stop the car along a roadside field in search of milkweed, caterpillars, etc. In 2007, she took her own life at age 34. I don't know why. I have no answers. The loss is immeasurable. I am 64 yrs old now and came upon your book in a recent library visit & it caught my eye mostly because of the title. It's a wonderful story, but the parallel with the monarch and the notes at the start of each chapter about the butterfly (some of which I already knew from so many years of monarchs)was so incredibly poignant that it stirred my grief in a way that's difficult to describe. Everyone who knew my daughter knows about the monarchs & think of her when they see one. There is a monarch on her grave marker. I cried at numerous passages about the legends of the monarchs and felt uplifted and stirred in an almost spiritual way. It's difficult to explain how your story affected me and I want to thank you for all your research on monarchs, especially for the chapter notes and for writing a story that has so touched a place in my heart that can never be filled.

I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading THE BEACH HOUSE. Such a sweet book. Loved all the info about the turtles and you even made me enjoy hearing about the beach and, trust me, I'm not a beach person. LOL. I have a sister who is fighting lung cancer right now and that inclusion, while hard to read about, was touching to me personally. I read THE BOOK CLUB many years ago and loved it. I'm a breast cancer survivor and I identify with this book. Time is a River changed my life, I took fly fishing and stayed in a cabin in Douthat State Park by myself and fished. I had my two dogs with me and friends in a cabin 1 mile away. My book club is reading and will meet at my house on March 19, for dinner and discussion. I'm having rotisserie Chicken not trout.

Mary Alice, My grandmother, who was 90, passed away last week. She, my mom and I began sharing books we loved many years ago. After her funeral, I found "Time is a River" on her nightstand. I loved the book--on so many levels--and will always think of this book as my grandmother's last gift to me.

Hello. I just read The Long Road Home about 5 times! I love this book, the story, the characters. Great storytelling and such food for thought about choices to make to live your life on your terms. It really touched me. When the local Borders store in my area was closing, I ran in and bought as many books as I could...I love the book, no kindle for me. Loved "The Beach House" This is my first book I have read by you. Could not put the book down. Loved the story and all of the hidden stories with in the story, but most of all I enjoyed learning about the loggerhead turtles. I felt that I was there on the beach with Lovie, Cara and the Turtle Ladies......... Looking forward to reading more of your novels in the lowcountry.
I am looking forward to BEACH HOUSE MEMORIES to learn more about Lovie's summer. I am also anxious to read your other new book based on dolphins. I love how you combine your stories with nature; so that one is entertained and educated at the same time. I hope you will be releasing your new books in the Charleston area again, as you did with THE BUTTERFLY"S DAUGHTER; and I hope I can again attend the release of your new books. I so enjoyed the experience of attending the national release of THE BUTTERFLY'S DAUGHTER. Your presentation and being able to speak with you was so wonderful. THE BUTTERFLY'S DAUGHTER is now one of my favorite books; not only, because of what a wonderful story it is, but also, because of having been able to be part of the special release of the book. I will always remember the release of the actual butterflies. I am even more aware of butterflies now than I ever was. Thank you for your wonderful books; and please continue writing them.

I just finished your book The Beach House and started Swimming Lessons. I live in Georgia part time and Colorado part time. We camped at Huntingbeach South Carolina this past fall (my first time there) and loved it. I love your books and plan to read them all.
Just finished Sweetgrass and went through half box tissues. Saw you at High Point Literary Club last year and my daughter and I absolutely loved The Butterfly's Daughter and my daughter recommended Sweetgrass so I asked for it for Christmas, then suggested it for our February selection for my book club. I love your writing and look forward to reading more. I could relate to this family because my father had a massive stroke at young age of 63 and it was hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. It was so hard on my mother and now that I'm 66 I think of the life they missed out on - so sad. Looking forward to our club discussion later this month.
I just finished reading your book "The Long Road Home." I never expected this book to speak to me on so many levels. I shed many tears while reading it. I can so relate to so many things. I know what it's like to lose everything. It's painful. It hurts. Many people just walk away, rather than help you get through it. I have two kids, both of my kids have gone through cancer. We faced it. We fought it. We won. I am in the process of losing my house, just can't hang on much longer. Being a single mom is tough. My kids deserve better. Sigh. I drew such strength and determination from this book, I could never put it into words. Life is tough. I will get through it. Somehow. Some way. Small steps. Thank you for this book. I consider finding it was a great gift to me when I needed it most.

Francine and I live in Shediac New Brunswick Canada and have been traveling by RV to the southern US for a number years. Through the years, we have always taken various interstate routes down to St Augustine. In the past year, we've had the pleasure of reading all of your books, that started with The Beach House. We have since passed all of them on to friends who have shared in the delight of reading your novels. Your passionate writting about the lowcountry resulted in this year's decision to follow the alternate route that will take us along the ocean shores of North and South Carolina in anticipatiion of your next book.

I just finished The Butterfly's Daughter and it really touched my heart. Long story, short, when my son was killed( he had very yellow hair as a child) I ask God for a sign. Not too long after a yellow butterfly flew up to me gently one day and then he was gone. When my son's father in law passed(they were very close) then there were two butterflies together, so they mean a lot to me. I plant flowers in the Spring that they come too. Loved the book.

Hi Mary Alice- I have been recently dx with Rhuematoid autoimmmune disorder. It has changed my life goals and plans. I am not letting it define my goals, but it has modified them. One of the things I have discovered, right in my backyard is Loggerhead MarineLife Center. marinelife.org I am able to volunteer there once a week for 3 hours, it is all I can give, it wears me out, I teach a kids class for 30 minutes and am an education docent in the turtle yard of patients. One of the guests told me of your books today I so wish I had exchanged names and emails with her, but, I was "on duty" I cam home and googled-- found you and have downloaded your books, trying to figure out if there is an order to the turtle ones! In the meantime...I liked your FB page, and my blog, just started... http://365rheum.blogspot.com/ happens to have a seaturtle female loggerhead on it today. Kahuna the turtle has been my therapist-- she is a good listener, you can read her story on marinelife.org She is a female and almost ready for release... hope hope hope... she is being transferred to the bigger tank in the next day or two to start some stamina training..she has been with us so long, she matured, while at LMC. Anyway- I am off to start reading... I had a long day and need to rest for the next couple and imagine it will be with your books! THANK YOU! I spent my 1 week vacation reading. I read "The Beach House" and then "Swimming Lessons". I have already read "Time is a River" and " Sweetgrass". Ms. Monroe, you are my favorite author.
