Turtle Summer
Turtle Summer Trailer
MAM with Island Turtle Team marking a loggerhed nest then locating turtle eggs.

We found eggs! Bev and MAM move eggs into a safe location high on a dune.

The eggs look just like ping pong balls!

60 days later, the nest hathes. These baby turtles were in the nest at inventory.

Healthy hatchlings scramble to the sea. Barb Bergwerf is there to document the event.

Some hatchlings go straight to the sea. Others take a circuitous route...

Sea turtles are sometimes found injured or sick in the ocean. These turtles are brought in to the nearest sea turtle hospital. For us, that hospital is the S.C. Aquarium.

A sea turtle is brought out of the tank for treatment. Boy, these turtles are strong!
This sea turtle is healthy again and ready for release back to the sea. A happy day!

Kelly Thorvalsen, the Director of the S.C. Aquarium's Sea Turtle Hospital, releases a sea turtle to the sea. This is the final, triumphant stage of her long battle to save this turtle's life.
