I would like to be notified when you have a new book released. I love your novels
PLEASE KEEP THE BOOKS COMING. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM. I JUST DISCOVERED SWIMMING LESSONS IN HARDCOVER AND AM READING IT NOW (I NEVER BUY HARDCOVERS BUT SPENT THE MONEY FOR THIS ONE!) HAVE READ ALL YOUR OTHER BOOKS AND I WISH YOU WOULD PUBLISH A BOOK A MONTH.
I have read two of your books, The Beach House and Skyward and have enjoyed them immensely. I just started Sweetgrass and know that it will also become a favorite. Thank you for your warm, informative, delightful books. Judy
Hi, all, my name is George, I'm from Germany, just wanted to say hello as my first post on this forum!
I absolutely have enjoyed your books more than any I've read in a long, long time. Thank you so much for good educational, exciting, happy ending, sweet stories!
I have searched all over the internet to find The Beach House on a cd or audio cassette set for my wife for Christmas. Could you direct me to one possibly ??? Thanks and have a Merry Christmas, too.
I won't become a book club member at this time, but just wanted to let Mary Alice know how much I enjoyed meeting her @ the Isle of Palms Retreat. I hope our turtles are doing well. And, I'm asking for BOOK CLUB for Christmas.
My mother recently read your book, Swimming Lessons, and thought that I would also enjoy it since I have always enjoyed books by Anne Rivers Siddons and her wonderful descriptions of the Outer Banks. You had me hooked by page 1 with your great description of life from the viewpoint of the loggerhead. I wanted to know more about you which has led me to this page and I noticed that you have worked with Southeast Asian refugees. FOr the past 2 and a half years, I have been an administrator of a charter school in Lowell with 40% of our students being of Cambodian descent. Lowell has the second largest Cambodian population in the US. We also offer Cambodian language classes as well as Spanish to all of our students starting in kindergarten as a way to expose students to learning a second language from a young age, but also to keep particularly Cambodian students fluent in their first language. Thank you for having written such a wonderful book. I am sorry that I didn't read The Beach House first-but I probably will so as to get to know Miss Lovie. I also look forward to your new book to be realeased in 2008.
Please let me know of how to become a book club member. I read Swimming Lessons and fell in love with it. I am reading The Beach House now and I will have read the entire book in about two days! I have not enjoyed reading this much since I was a teenager. I plan to get Sweetgrass and Skyward this weekend. Thank you for reminding me of the low country, as I still have my home in Savannah!
I have to tell you that your books made me happy again to read i wish i could just keep reading and reading and never close your books.
I am already a member of book clubs, but I would like to ask a special question of Mary Alice. Can her publicist or secretary email me? I enjoyed reading Skyward. It is the 1st book of yours I have read and LOVED it. Laura Wood
I can't seem to locate your book "The Long Road Home". I've seen it on half.com, but you don't list it on your website. How can I get a copy? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I just finished reading SWEETGRASS and found myself crying at the sadness mixed with the beauty of the ending. I had only one child, a son, who passed away at the age of 31 (in 2000)from cancer, so many of my emotions were right on the edge along with Mama June's. My heart went out to her character. When an author can evoke such emotions from a reader it surely does speak well, better than well, for the exceptional quality of that author, and I certainly found it to be true of you. I met you at the luncheon at UNCW last week. Actually, you sat at the table next to me. I got you to sign 2 paperbacks that I brought with me for a friend. I cannot wait to read BEACH HOUSE just so I can listen to SWIMMING LESSONS on audio. I love books on audio! I hope you have a blessed holiday season and I look forward to reading you as well as seeing you again soon. Your happy new fan, Linda Linares Wilmington, NC
This past summer I stumbled onto your book "Beach House" and thought what a great book this would be for the summer. I was so right!!! I enjoyed it immensely! I went from that to "Swimming Lessons" then to "Sweetgrass" and "Skyward". I loved all of them! My last book to read of yours was "The Four Seasons". It was also good though quite different from the other 4. Where and when can we get your new book? I am anxious to read it!
We just received the current issue of "N" magazine. I saw the article on the author lecture series and you will be the guest author April 7th. I went to my 2008 calendar and sure enought April 7th is the Bonita Bay Book Club meeting at 10:30 a.m. I'm so disappointed that I will be unable to attend the luncheon. Regards, Eileen
Mary Alice - I re-read The Beach House as I wanted to refresh my mind before reading Swimming Lessons. Loved them both. I just finished The Four Seasons - what a WONDERFUL story. I also have three sisters (no brothers) so there are the Four of us girls. Will inform each of them, they must read this book. Thank You for the GREAT reading.
I JUST LOVE EVERY BOOK WRITTEN BY MARY ALICE. SHE IS MY FAVORITE AUTHOR INDEED AND MY DAUGHTER'S ALSO. I AM JUST FINISHING READING THE BEACH HOUSE FOR THE SECOND TIME. SO FAR I HAVE ALL THE BOOKS AND AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW ONE IN JUNE. THANK YOU, MARY ALICE FOR BRINGING ME SO MANY WONDERFUL READING HOURS. YOU ARE WONDERFUL, SHIRLEY
Our entire table was captivated by your talk at AAUW Authors Luncheon today. Some of us had not yet read any of your books, but vowed to, after such a moving presentation. Three of us are regional authors who would love to have your speaking style and voice! We'll be awaiting the books' arrival, and hope to see you again in Wilmington.
I picked up your book "Beach House" at a rummage sale for something to read while at the beach in Charleston. We are from Charleston and we were living in Georgia at the time. I gave it to a friend of 30 years since we both like reading about the same books. She was so hooked on the "Beach House", she went and purchased all your books out at the time----2003. She has grandchildren and I would love to get a signed copy of "Turtle Summer". Where could I purchase this. Thanks.
I have read absolutely every book you have written and I'm truely excited to get my hands on the new one due out in June 2008. Your novel Turtle Summer is on my christmas list for my daughter, she is 10 and loves to read as much as I do. I came across your novels after falling in love with novels by Dorthea Benton Franks, I asked my book store clerk fro an author who writes stories along the same lines as she did, you were highly recommended and I wasn't disappointed. I keep track of both your new novels and rush out to buy them as soon as they are released. Thank you for bringing such joy into my life through your books and may God continue to bless you and the work that you do. Sincerely, Debbie Watson
I have just finished The Beach House and found myself hanging and just wanting to continue on. What a wonderful and inspiring story. I became very amazed at the loggerheads connection with their offspring and kept asking myself how anyone cannot believe in a higher power that would give these amazing creatures the ability to be able to care and connect with their "children". I was most effected by the "tears" of the mother when she laid her eggs knowing that she was never going to see them again. I know that is not the "real" reason of the tears but it just seems to fit the situation so well. I am looking forward to reading the sequel and I am presently reading Skyward and also enjoying it. Thank you again for writing such moving books.
Mary Alice is a "pearl" of an author
We lived in Ladson and Goose Creek for 20 years, parents lived in Aiken, husband from Clinton and we come back as much as we can. My husband was a bass fisherman and I loved going out to the rice paddies and enjoying nature of Carolina. Brings back so many memories. It has so much culture, FL has none. Keep on writing and I'll keep on buying your books. Thanks so much
I loved all your books. I plan to reread them often. You are a terrific writer.
I have read all of your books, thanks to my cousin who recommended them. I have bought several books to give to a friend who will be having surgery soon. Please, please come out with a new one soon.
I have now read all of your books including the ones written under you maiden name. You amaze me with your style of writing. I feel that I am right there with the characters in each and every book you have written. Please continue to produce such wonderful books. Look forward to your next new release.
Second Star to the Right and One Summer's Night are two of my all-time favorite romances. I love the work you write as Mary Alice Monroe, of course, but I love those two fantasy romances.
Ms. Monroe, I met you at the South Carolina Writer's Workshop last weekend and enjoyed so much all of your presentations. They were very helpful to me as a writer. I am a member of a book club here in Orangeburg, SC. We got started after passing around and reading your book, The Book Club! I don't know if you remember me asking you, when you were signing my copy of The Beach House, but I asked if my book club could take you out to dinner in Charleston, or if we could have a meeting at one of the member's beach houses at Kiawah or Pawley's Island (your pick). You told me to email you about it. I've asked them about it now, and they all want very much to do this. We are scheduled to discuss Atonement at the next meeting, and then I am in charge of the next one, which could be in December or January, whichever you prefer, and we could discuss "The Beach House" at one of our Beach Houses! Please let me know. Thanks again for all your good advice at the workshop. Sincerely,
Hi, Mary Alice! I proctored your room at the SC Writer's Workshop recently in Myrtle Beach, SC. Your topic was "Climax and Resolution: The One-Two Punch." You stated you had handouts which you give to your students when teaching this topic. I took notes but was wondering if I might receive one on your handouts. Your class was so good, I really don't want to take a chance of missing anything. My notes are clear in some places and not so clear in others. If it is possible, you could send it via email to my email: Cillky@aol.com or my home address: 405 Staffwood Drive, Irmo, SC 29063. I will be happy to send a stamped envelope if you could advise me where to send it. I really appreciate it. Thank you and for coming to present to us at the SC workshop, sincerely, Priscilla Hodge
I just finished The Beach House. I loved the book. I am just washed in love of the characters. Each one spoke to different parts of me. I wanted to thank you for the book. It was carefully written and you really developed the characters. I smiled through my tears when Palmer said "hell yes" at the invite to come to the beach for Lovies nest. Thank you. Wonderful read.
I love all of your books! WOuld you be interested in coming to talk to my class about TUrtle Summer?
I recently discovered your books and I have finished "Girl in the Mirror" and "The Book Club". Both kept me up way past my bedtime! Thank you for sharing your stories and your viewpoint.
Dear Alice, I have enjoyed learning about you on your website. It is very inviting, and easy to navigate. I would like to let you know that I have created a list of notable authors and your name is on it. But, there is one problem. The bulk of the authors that I have on my list can be found on Wikipedia, but when I searched for your name there, nothing came up. Some schools don't allow open net-surfing, but will allow their computers to access Wikipedia for educational purposes. I hope that in the near future, you will consider including information about yourself and your works at Wikipedia, so that others wishing to learn more will have the opportunity access information abour you. And, you can also include a link to this site as well! Best wishes, Eric Mejia WindMill Media
When will your next book, Time is a River, be available in bookstores? I have read all of your books, and can hardly wait for the next one.
I loved Beach House and Swimmming Lessons! Your characters are so real! We have read Cara's story and Toy's story. PLEASE write another about the same characters and tell us what happend to Emmi! Her story is still unfinished.
Hello Mary Alice - I just order a print of The Isle of Palms, taken by Susan Wiggs, from the Beach Bound Retreat in Nov. 05. It is pictured on her Shutterfly.com #17. It is just BEAUTUFUL. My question - - I was just there on the Isle of Palms, and took a picture of the boardwalk, and it DIDN'T look like this. How many boardwalks are there along the Beach? Is this picture from a private beach? Susan gave me your name, and asked that I write you. Can't wait to start reading your books, as I LOVE anything about the Low Country. Bernadette
I absolutely love your books. Have read several and have my sister hooked also. They are such lovely stories. I wish that you had them available in audio books, as I am sure that my blind, 85 year old Mom would love them as well! Looking forward to reading Swimming Lessons. Donna
Hi Mary Alice! I read The Book Club this summer and absolutely loved it. I've got Sweetgrass on my book shelf just waiting for me to get a break in the semester to read. I've settled in to Texas just fine. My son is in Iraq and my husband will be deploying in a few weeks. I joined Gold's Gym but it's just not the same as spending the mornings with you guys. I think of you often and miss your smiling faces. Please tell everyone hello.
Please tell me that a new book is coming soon....perhaps a sequel to Swimming Lessons?
I have just finished reading The Beach House and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. I have never read any of your books before and now I intend to try and trace these in my local book shop and read them all. Thank you so much for the pleasure I got from your book and I have now passed it to my daughter. We live in Inverness in Scotland. sheila

Hi, Mary: I'm in the exciting process of opening my own bookstore, Rivendell Books. I plan on displaying authors' photos on a Wall of Fame and am hoping you will be able to send me a signed photo of yourself for inclusion on the Wall.
Our bookclub, Myrtle Trace South, inbetween Conway and Myrtle Beach on Highway 501 was going to read the new Christmas book by you, however, I cannot find it on the internet now - are you still planning on releasing a new book about Christmas? We all love your other books and go to the Moveable Feast in Litchfield when you come to the area. We are looking forward to another book. "Swimming Lessons" was wonderful along with "Turtle Summer" Since I lived on the Isle of Palms for 32 years, I felt right at home reading your book
: Ms. Monroe's books are heartfelt, warm and full of caring and love. I first read Ms. Monroe's "Beach House" a few years ago and was hooked! As a lover of the Lowcountry, I find her books in the setting of the Lowcountry very wonderful and refreshing. Thanks for sharing you talent, Ms. Monroe with the world!! Mischele Routh- Arkansas
I just love your books. When will there be a new one?
Have loved your books on the turtles, great reading and also a wonderful education about the turtles. Was so excited this summer when I found a sequel to your first book. Thank You. Jan
I met you at Barnes & Noble when I purchased a copy of Skyward. Having read several of your other books already and your interest/work with sea turtles I thought how nice it would be to have you here for a program. I am an Assistant Librarian at Surfside Beach Library near Myrtle Beach. Would you be available for a program at our branch library? We have a "Meet the Author" program every other month. If you are available and you could let me know your fee for a date in 2008. Hope we can have you here and I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you! Fondly, Kathryn Gardner
My favorite books are The Beach House and Swimming Lesson. Will you do a sequel???? Love any store to do with the loggerheads. Rita Amaral

Dear Ms. Monroe, I am a 46-year old woman, and I must say that before this summer, I'd never heard of you and/or your novels. Let me just say that I read five of them!!! I am a fifth grade teacher, and by the end of last year, I was ready to bury myself in some good reading. Your books certainly went way above and beyond any expectations I ever had! The Beach House was my first book -- then, of course, I had to read Swimming Lessons right after it. The Four Seasons was fantastic -- as a middle aged woman and mother of three, I truly identified with that book. Sweetgrass and Skyward were fantastic as well. You have a fabulous way of bringing your characters to life; also, I could close my eyes and imagine all of the settings. To top things off, I vacationed in Hilton Head with 4 other teacher friends in August, and by goodness, on our last day, I found a little taped off mound on a dune -- yes, the Loggerhead Turtle!!! I actually saw the Sweetgrass too! Thank you so very much for your fantastic writing --- I eagerly await your next novel!! Keep up the fabulous work. I am now a die-hard fan!! Most Sincerely, Richelle Gnezda
Dear Ms Monroe, I grew up in Murrells Inlet, SC--about an hour north of you. I was fortunate to have known our coast before it became such an over populated place! For the first time in my life, I have actually stopped reading a very good book to say "thank you" to the author! I have just started Skyward. Thank you for including so many important environmental issues in a beautiful book of fiction! I am an artist and I try to include environmental stories in my pottery. I have also been a teacher and I appreciate the educational benefit that your book is giving! Again, thanks!----gotta get back to the book! Sincerely, Arden Inabinette
Your wonderful books have reawakened my interest in sea turtles and birds of prey. I still hope to have the experience of seeing some turtles on my next visit to SC, and look forward to a visit at the new Birds of Prey Center.
I have read all the books you have written. I started reading them before moving to North Carolina (near Topsail Island) to get a feel for what it was like here. I just finished The Four Seasons. I think this one was my favorite, although the others were great too!!! Thank You!!!!! Susan Walker P.S. I have been to the Isle of Palms-LOVE IT!!
I have read all your books I can find. What is the problem with Secrets we keep and The Long road home? Do you know anywhere that sells them? I would love to find a copy of these 2 books, so I could have all of yours. Thanks for the help. I appreciate anything you could tell me. Mary branham
I would love to know what you are working on now. My mom also loves your books. She is 81 and I am 60 . I read them first and then pass them on so we can talk about them. I loved swimming lessons but I still think my favorite is Sweetgrass. What a book. Can't wait for a new one. Have a wonderful fall season. I also love the turtles. When we go to florida I love to go to the Mote Aquarium. We live in North Central Ohio so we don't have the chance to see sea turtles like you so. Keep up the wonderful work you do . A great fan Mary Branham
I HAVE READ EVERY ONE OF YOUR BOOKS AND HAVE LOVED THEM. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING.
Mary Alice, I work at a small town library and all of our patrons really like The Beach House and Swimming Lessons. They keep asking if there will be a third book in the series. If you could let us know what to tell them, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank You! Michelle
I don't know if you recieved my email to you after reading Swimming Lessons but i have sent in several 5 star reviews on your book. I loved it so much I got "The Beach House" which come to find out was my Mother-in-laws favorite book so i past on "Swimming Lessons" to her but on the condition it does not get loaned out. PLEASE tell me ther is a follow up to this!! Lori Barnes
I love your books and have passed them off to friends. I would love to have "Turtle Lady" t-shirts- any hope.
My 6 year old loves your book Turtle Summer. We live on Edisto Island and love to look out for the turtle nests. Would it be possible to get a signed copy of that book for our elementary school's silent auction? I feel like it would be a big hit & help us raise money for our little public school (52 students) as well as help educate them about the turtles they share their beach with. If you could donate one, I would have the teachers read it to the school so they can all have a better understanding of what our turtle patrol does, not to mention beg their parents to bid on the book so they can be the "cool kid" that gets it.Thank you for your time and especially your stories! Sincerely, Valerie Davis
Wow!!!
I'm an avid reader - have been since I was a child (66 yrs old now). A friend from Texas recommended your book, The Beach House, which I got from the library here in Roseville, CA. And last night at 2:00 AM I finished Skyward. Your books are fabulous! Not only are they great stories, but one learns something about the environment as well. I can't wait to get the next one! Thank you! Bev Laverty
I wanted to say I thouroughly enjoyed reading Beach House. We travel from PA to NC every summer to vacation on Oak Island and my tradition is to take along a beach plot type book to read while relaxing. A friend sugested Beach House. I feel in love with the book and the characters and hated when the book was over only to realize there was a book 2. I now ordered Swimming Lessons and the Turtle Summer Journal. I have two daughters and can't wait to share it with them. Thank you for such amazing stories that capture the readers' hearts with the beautiful loggerhead turtles. Long Live the Turtles! A Mom in PA
