About the fabulous photographs...

This photograph is "Big Girl," the fabulous sea turtle you meet in Swimming Lessons. Barbara Bergwerf took this--and many other wonderful photographs of the lowcountry. You can view them at her site: Bergwerf Graphics
ABOUT THE COVER...
The cover of SWIMMING LESSONS was painted by noted Charleston painter--and friend--Leslie Pratt-Thomas. The young girl standing at the edge of the surf with her arms outstretched to take in the breadth of the world is symbolic of the hope and enthusiasm that is a hallmark of pre-adolescent girls. They believe they can be or do anything! That glorious, fearless approach to life is the emotion I wanted to tap into in my novel and I felt that Leslie had captured it so perfectly in the painting.
