Only one word on your novels. "Priceless"
Quite a change from my reading the usual war story books. Mary Alice uses her words to paint the colors of life. Her book "Last light over Carolina" is a book with soul. A warm story and a pleasure to listen to the CD version.
Love the book The Beach House, can hardly wait to read Swimming Lessons. Thanks for writing such a creative story. I never knew there were turtles like these.
Hi there, I was very excited to receive your
email re your novels coming out in paperback. I have had a very difficult time trying to find them. I have a friend in Mexico who is working with turtles there and I have forwarded your name and book lists to her. I will look forward to the November release of your new book. I will have to order it in. Your publisher needs to remember that the Canadian market is big. I also love the new year. As a retired teacher I look forward to making the most out of each day. You take care and I wish you continued success. Faye( a loyal Canadian fan)
PS I will check out your facebook page. I am not too much into that, but it sounds interesting.
You are my favorite author!!!! I have all of your books. I plan to read Sweetgrass again soon. I can't wait for another book. SPRING 2011? I am not sure I can wait that long. Please explain what it means to belong to your book club. Keep up the good work. Your stories are a delight that seem to have so many things that are familiar to my own life. Happy Holidays Char
PS I was a rehabber of squirrels in Wis. before my husbands death last Aug. and would love a story about squirrels. Somedays it is best to bury myself in books. Your books have brought me through many a hard lonely time. Thanks
I really enjoyed "Time is a River", even as a man. I am am also a cancer survivor and a fly fisherman, so there was a lot I could identify with. There was a glaring error at the end that puzzles me - in the last chapter you described an Adams as a colorful fly. The segment following was beautiful, but Adams are grey flies. They are very effective but not colorful. Were you having fun with us or was your consultant having fun with you? It doesn't actually matter or affect my enjoyment. Thank you for a great audio book.
Dearest Mary Alice, Thank you so much for your greetings. I love hearing from you. I hope that you will be surrounded by your loving family for the holidays. I am wondering if I can look forward to a new wonderful novel by my very favorite author this summer?? I am praying that a new one is being written now. I so look forward to buying your books and spending precious time devouring them. I bought Beach House for a friend. I just could not part with my precious Mary Alice Monroe books!!! I so wanted her to read it, so went on Amazon and got one for her. She just loved it. Have a blessed holiday season and the very best of New Years. With Much Love and Respect, Your biggest fan, Shirley Herson

Mary Alice, I just finished reading "Time is a River" and I never wanted it to end. I wanted to just jump into Watkins Cove and grab a fishing pole. I could so much live like that for a summer. I too fell in love with Kate. Thanks again for such a good read. I LOVED IT!!!
I love your books. I've read all ten and I just finished your new one.
Dear Mary Alice, I am content also, as you beautifully explained in your recent blog... except for one small favor I have of you. Here's the back story: my long-time friend Linda loaned me "Last Light Over Carolina" which was inscribed by you. Her husband, Buddy, has been a shrimp boat Captain and shrimper for years and your inscription mentioned this. Unfortunely, I put her copy in a stack of others being donated to Friends of the New Hanover County Library. Someone is the proud new owner. Linda is also my husband's office administrator and his draw for this year's secret santa. I would love to surprise her with another signed copy of "Last Light" as her gift. She will never let it go again I am sure. Please allow me to purchase this copy from you as soon as possible as this would bring contentment to both her world and mine! Thanking you in advance, Mary Hauser
Thanks for the (milkweed) seeds. I am at 3 schools, so hope there will be enough for at least 2, and my family home on James Island!
I was so upset to learn I missed you in N. Charleston's B&N by only a few hours this past summer. I'd like to receive your newsletters, so I will not miss you again. Looks like you will be enjoying FL for the next months. I've read several of your books since moving to the Charleston area 5 yrs. ago. I like the local setting.
Love all your works..my daughter a 20 year first grade teacher has discovered sea turtles via Bach House..wants to do it at Litchfield SC. She found out about it last summer while on vac. there. I would love to find a rescue shirt for her as holiday gift...any ideas where I would be able to acquire one? her class opened in Sept with a study of sea turtles...thanks soooo much..dj smth
I read your book The Four Seasons and absolutely loved it. I reviewed it on my blog as well. http://chickity-chicklit.blogspot.com/2009/11/four-seasons-review.html
I plan to buy Turtle Summer for my 6 yr old daughter. I loved the Beach House and I'm now reading Swimming Lessons. They are great books and they make the reader think about our ecosystem and its inhabitants!
Will you be doing a sequel to Time is a river?
I so enjoyed meeting you yesterday at Tristan's. Listening to you talk about why you love to write books makes you want to read everything you have written. Thanks for such an enjoyable luncheon. Will be seeing you on 11-22-09. (Tressy Mellichamp's aunt)
Hello! I belong to a bookclub composed of 10 women & we are beginning our 10th year together. Two of us are also science teachers and we appreciate the environmental aspect of the novels. We are the Kindred Southern Sisters -KSS! We have loved Time is A River, Sweetgrass & The Book Club. We are going to read The Four Seasons to discuss in January. Is there any way we might be able to purchase 10 autographed copies of the book? We would love to visit a book signing in SC but it's a little far for us! Thanks for the book discussion guides. We enjoy using them. Thank you very much, Donna Wright
I hope you're doing well and wish you and your family happy holidays! This is Vanessa's mom :)
My Dear Mary Alice, As the holiday season fast approaches us, I want to wish you and your wonderful family a wonderful holiday season. I do hope that a new novel is in the works for us in 2010. It always gives me something to look forward to. I had let my daugher read your last one and she said she did not want it to end. I always lend your books to my family and friends, but insist upon getting them back. I treasure all of them. Many thanks to you for the many hours of reading joy you bring to me, my family and friends. You are so appreciated and admired. Your biggest fan, Shirley J. Herson
I have read 3 of your books so far, and I've enjoyed them sooo much. I am curious as to the order the novels were written. It seems some have a common thread intertwined. I'm looking forward to reading all of your books. I'm not really an avid reader, but I find yours difficult to put down once I start them. Thanks for such enjoyable reading with such sincere meaning in them. Glenda
I have been a fan of dot franks for a while now when someone suggested I read one of your books and now I'm hooked. I just got finished with The Four Seasons and I cried like a baby, maybe because Merry reminded me of my little niece so much. Thank you for all your wonderful books.
Just a little note to say how much I loved your book "Time is a River". I have been going through chemo for t and b cell lymphoma and could identify with so much of Mia's feelings. I loved the mystery aspect of the story and can't wait to read more of your novels. I just happened to find this one at our bank where we have a book trade and I am so glad someone else parted with it! I like to share my books with my 87 year old Mom and I really think she will love this one too. Thanks for a great read, I didn't want to put it down, and since chemo poops you out you need a good book for a friend. Hope to find more of your books at the library soon. Sincerely, Pat Burns
I just wanted to say that I had not read a novel since I was in junior high. In 2003 a friend gave me "The Beach House" to read since I recently lost my job, left my husband and was waiting for the new year to go to Oregon and help my disabled mother while I figure out my life. I felt like this book was written about my life. Needless to say I have purchased most of your books and read them over and over and share them with my friends. I now enjoy reading a good book. Thank you for being such an awesome writer that I like to read again.
I just wanted to say that I just read "Time is a River." This book made me laugh and cry. It all so means alot to me because I knew some one that had breast cancer so you can see why it means a lot to me. Are you coming to Asheville NC any time soon
I have just finished Last Light Over Carolina and, of course, loved it. Now I have read all of your books. If I had to pick my favorites, I think (it's so hard to choose!) they would be Sweetgrass, Time is a River, and Swimming Lessons in that order. Will be looking forward to your next one; hopefully there will be a sequel to Time is a River!
I am currently reading The Four Seasons and really have enjoyed your writing. Thanks for your hard work. I'm probably not your typical fan...male...mid-50s....in Kansas...
I just finished reading Last Light over Carolina. I just loved it. All of your novels ( I have read all of them) are so heart warming. What I enjoy most is the characters are so real. The situations presented are similar to life as we know it. Thank you for bringing me such enjoyment through your words!
Oh my gosh! I just finished reading Swimming Lessons. It was marvelous to be sure. I read it in one day. It was such a great ending to Beach House. I love all the detail of the turtles which I never new, created such an impression I look up some info on the web. Blessings to you. Louise

Hi: I just finished, "Four Seasons" which to me was certainly lots of tears, and one I can relate to since I adopted two boys in the 70's of different families. One did connect with his birth mother and moved to her home state and died from accidental death by carbon dioxide poisoning. He had a very trouble childhood because he had ADHD. I am thankful she was able to spend some time with him. I also read the Book Club, which I didn't feel had the richness of Time is a River, Sweetgrass & Beach House. I missed the mystery in the story and subject matter of education. I am venturing to read Swimming Lessons, the last one available at the Library that I want to read. Louise
I have read all 10 of your books and I am a true fan of your work. Your are a great storyteller. Thanks for your body of work. I look forward to your nest book.
As a flyfisher and one who has helped put on Casting for Confidence with the Georgia Women Flyfishers, I truly enjoyed and was enchanted by your book,Time is a River. I could feel Mia change and get captured by the river and the sport, something I've felt my whole life, although I didn't start flyfishing until 5 years ago. Thank you for weaving a story that was facinating, exciting, wistful and sweet. Diane
When you are creating/writing, do you ever sensor yourself? Sometimes I get caught up and think "I can't write that, would my mother say"? How does one not sensor themselves? I enjoy your words and the poetic style in which you write.
Beach House needs a follow up book on Toy, Cara, Olivia, Linna & Cooper not to mention the love of Bret for Cara. It was a wonderful story. Read it in one day as the others. I am hooked. Louise
Sunday last week I read Sweetgrass and today, yes today I read The beach House. Time is the River is my favorite and next is Beach House. Wow such quiet mystery, you just want to sit in a quiet room and read. No noise on of any kind. I haven't read that much fiction in many years. I felt my home was the Beach House. I like that relationships changed by disaster, that is a talent. I will keep reading. Louise
I have read and enjoyed several of your books. I just finished The Four Seasons. This one was especially fun to read because I live in Sturgeon Bay, WI and frequently shop in Green Bay and DePere. Thank you for all the great books and I hope there will be many more.
I've read all your books except the one that is no longer in print. I even checked the used book store to find a copy. Please keep writing; you have big fans in Florida!!
Hi Mary Alice: I just read Time is a River and I loved it. It kept me so interested from the first chapter I read the whole book in one afternoon and evening. It has been far too long since I have read a fiction book. I have bought many books but all religious growth books. I have been writing all my life, but only a couple of articles that are published. This was marvelous because I know a great deal about the effects of cancer having lost a husband to it and now suffer with a type of NON-Hodgins. We have a place in Manning, Iowa-German Housebarn moved there from Germany piece by piece on a small estate with a carriage house and a huge barn with old fashion stuff that I took lots of pictures of it. Let me know if you interested in seeing them. Huge loft in the barn they used for dancing way before my time and I'm 75. I love fishing, though not fly fishing, but there was so much I enjoyed in this book. My husband loved fishing and the times we had fishing were just wonderful. The depth of this was so deep I will be looking at it for days to come. Thank you.
Read your book "Time is a River". I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't want to put it down till I finished it and then wanted to keep reading. I loaned it to my sister and she loved it also. Wanted to to find more of your books, so I got on the internet and found you. I will read the rest of them.
Last Light Over Carolina was just as good as all the other books...please tell me there is another one due out soon....!!! you can't write them fast enough..lol
I just finished your 2nd book it was GREAT hard to put down. I am from Charleston but live now in Waynesville NC. Reading your books was like being Home again. Will start tonight on Last light over Carolina. Thanks for the Great books. BETTYSUE
I have only just begun my journey with you as my writer. I have just finished 'The Beach House' and read it over a few days - I couldn't put it down! Thank-you so much for sharing your talent as an amazing writer and your caring nature of some amazing creatures. Smiles & blessings, Julie Cadusch
I have just finished reading "Time is a River" and had to let you know that I thought this was a great read. Once I started it was hard to put down. I read "Last Light over Carolina" and that was great as well. I am now looking forward to reading "Girl in the Mirror." You have completely won me over.
I just had to write and tell you I read The Beach House. This is the first book of yours that I have read and it won't be the last. I love the beach and though I haven't visited the Carolina Coast, we go to Gulf Shores, AL every year and I long for my time there. I loved The Beach House and this is the first time I have written to tell an author how much I enjoyed her book.
It is a pleasure to read a novel the has women of all ages in the story. Thank you for not forgetting that "mature" women still have something to say.
Will you be writing a sequel to Time is a River? I was wondering if there would be a follow up to Mia's growth after leaving Watkins Cove.
Loved last light over carolina . What is next? I can't wait. Love your books.
I have finished Last Light.... and loved the book. And as always, with your books, I didn't want the book to end. I have read all of your books and have enjoyed each one. Then I can't wait for your next book to be written. However, I know that that means a lot of hard work for you to get the next book ready for publication. Thank you for such wonderful stories. Barbara McCants
Dear Mary Alice Monroe, I just finished reading your book "The Four Seasons" which I bought on Hilton Head Island in July without having heard about you or your books before (I had the pleasure to meet you, too and you signed it, you were on a reading tour introducing your latest book "Last light over Carolina". I just wanted to let you know just HOW MUCH I enjoyed this book, not only because I really love your style and the way you create your characters but also because it hit home like nothing else before. I could identify to the bone with one of the characters in the book and it has started me off on a personal journey that I am not sure of where it will lead me to. Thank you so much for this book and rest assured to have made a very true German fan who will just eat up all your books...;-) Kind regards Stefanie Pilger
Hello! I just bought the book "The Four Seasons" today while shopping. I started it and could not put it down & I have just finished! I am hooked on your book and can't wait until tomorrow morning when my library opens to RUN down there and see what they have to read by you! It has been so long since I have read a GREAT book & I highly recommend this one and will be passing it on to a family member that also respects wonderful reading! Thank you for writing such a great story.
In July I was in Isle of Palms for the 4th time vacationing with some of my family. We love it so much there. My daughter-in-law has an aunt who lives on IOP and that's what started us going there. Reading your books is just like being there! I am in the process of going to Amazon.com and ordering all the ones I haven't read yet. I will never miss another one!
I am a new reader to your books and the first one i read was last light over carolina once i started i couldnt put it down it was one of the best that ive read so now i am off to our local book store to find another of your books this was a great book that left me wanting to read more
I love to read your books, they seem to have a learn experience
I just love your books. My sister went to Goodwill and found several books which she then passed onto me. One of them was The Beach House. That was the first book of yours that I read and have been hooked since then. This summer I have been on a quest to find from various libraries all of your books. I am happy to say I have read them all with the exception of your latest book, which I will purchase soon. I am moved by your characters, and can envision them all. I often re-read the same exciting paragraph over and over, and find that I can't put the book down. I am also in love with the ocean, and visit whenever I can. I am especially drawn to the Carolinas, and hope to someday rent a beach house. It would be a dream to live by the ocean. The settings in your books are so romantic, and I love that the characters always find love with the most gentle of men. Your books make me laugh and they make me cry. You are my favorite author and I look forward to more of your books in the future. thank you denise
Your books are truly wonderful! You were in Topsail Beach NC and Wilmington NC this summer and I had to work both days and was so sorry to have missed meeting you. Please keep the books coming...The way you connect nature with life stories is awesome. The loggerheads and The Beach House; Fly fishing and Time is a River; Thanks for doing what you do
I am currently reading Last Light Over Carolina and having mixed feelings whether I like it or not. I love Carolina and the person she is, but as far as Bud goes - NO. Maybe you could say, he gets what's coming to him with his accident, out to sea alone. I have read every book of yours, Mary Alice, except The Book Club and will look for it next. Time Is a River was your best. Please continue to write, I will always read your stories and thanks so much for giving us so many wonderful hours of enjoyment. Hope you're having a great summer. too. Bess
I loved "The Beach House". What an informative and warm, thought-provoking book. I look forward to reading more of your books.
I loved "The Beach House". What an informative and warm, thought-provoking book. I look forward to reading more of your books.
I recently finished, "Last light over Carolina". I think it is one of your best books. I hated finishing it. When can we expect another from you?
I just finished reading Last Light over Carolina. After reading this, I'm already looking forward to reading all of your books. I've referred you on to other reader friends and they agree, great book.
With each new book you write, I keep hoping for the NEXT Chapter of Sweetgrass. You're good, but please take us back to Sweetgrass.
Time is a River is so wonderful! My uncle Dave will be teaching me to become a flyfisher on the ausauble river. Your book has affected me on many levels. Thank You, Genee.
Dear Mary Alice, I'm a huge fan of yours and enjoyed meeting you at USBC's "Luncheon with the Author" at Dockside recently. We talked about our mutual interest in turtles (I'm on the Turtle Patrol on Fripp Island.) and other environmental issues while you were signing my books. Your presentation was very interesting, especially learning about the way you approached Last Light over Carolina by researching the shrimping industry first. We are having a charity golf tournament and auction on Fripp Island to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer, "Rally for the Cure," on Oct 13th and After Glow Auction the 14th and would be very appreciative and excited if you could help us. We were hoping that you would be willing to donate a signed copy of your newest book for the auction. We could raise even more money if you would be willing to donate a signed copy of all of your books that we could package together in a basket with a picture of you along with information about you and your connection to the Low Country, maybe with a nest adoption certificate package from our turtle program or something else that ties in with one of your books (free shrimp from Gay Fish Company?? or a Dockside certificate?? or admission to the Birds of Prey Center??). We could send you a tax deductible receipt for your donation. I could pick up the books from you, or you could mail them to my home. Attached are the flyers about the auction, so that you know it is legitimate and I'm not going to keep them for myself (although I would love to have it!). Thank you so much for reading my email. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have read The Beach House (loved that book....I actually read it on a trip to Isle of Palms). I became obsessed with turtles!!). I read Time is a River a few months ago and wanted to take up fly fishing. Today I read Last Light and I am now a fan of yours for life. Great books all three. I look forward to finding some of the past books as well as any future ones. Your books definitely touch my heart.
Hello Mary Alice, I hope this you are doing well. My name is Jonathan Cummings and I'm the photographer who was shooting video of the turtles at Isle of Palms last week. You had asked me to e-mail you and give you my information so here it is. I have some video that I would love to share with you and Barb as a thank you for letting me come out and shoot. I could always use more footage so if you'd like I would love to come out again for another shoot. E-mail me or give me a call at your convenience. I look forward to hearing from you. -Jonathan Cummings
We met briefly at Costco in Charleston, SC. We spoke of the turtle rescue, and your wonderful books. Is there another hatching due soon? I would love to see it. God bless. Elizebeth
I have read two of your books, just finishing The Four Seasons and Time is a River. I am hooked on your writing. I cannot put them down. I love them. The Four Seasons was just wonderful.
I am currently reading your book "The Beach House" and I am enjoying it very much. Have you ever thought of writing a sequel of the story, I was thinking maybe along the story lines that Toy gets her education and one of the Peterson boys take an interest in her etc. And maybe you could touch on Cara, Brett and the other characters of the story. Thanks for a good story in "The Beach House though."
I met you at the Emerald Isle Book store and it was a huge thrill for me. You signed your new book for my Dad's wife and I bought the Daughter's Journal. Last night while I was sitting 2 turtle nests, yes 2 just a few feet apart, I had the opportunity to share that precious little book with several different tourist children. I told all their mothers that you were just here and where they could find the books. Until seeing the book, their little eyes were glazing over just staring at the prepared nest with orange tape surrounding it!
I loved Last Light over Carolina! I live in Charleston, and when I read your books, I can really visualize the story because I've been to the places in the books, I know exactly what they look like. All I can say is hurry up with the next wonderful journey!
I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed Last Light over Carolina. I have enjoyed all of your books but thought that this was your best novel yet. It was very impressive how you managed to do the entie novel over a one day time period. It was a fantastic book -- please keep on writing!
I started Last Light over Carolina yesterday. I got up at 2:00 this morning and finished reading it. It is great. I felt as though I knew the characters in the book and felt their pain and fear. I have read all your books and look forward to the next one.
A friend lent me her paperback copy of The Beach House. I was reading in on the beach at the Isle of Palms and dropped it in the water. I finished it with soggy wrinkled pages. I want to replace it for her with a hardcover copy. I want one for her and one for me too. Great book. I love the Isle of Palms.
I bought Last Light over Carolina on Friday at the Silver Coast Winery. I finished reading it on Saturday night. I guess that lets you know how much I enjoyed it. My only regret is that now I have to wait another year for one of your books. My friends and I are excited about a sequel to The Beach House. We are the ladies wearing the turtle t-shirts each year at Silver Coast Winery. We are your biggest fans.
I just finished Last Light over Carolina. I just want to say as the daughter of a commercial fisherman from Sneads Ferry, NC, I would like to say that you did a fab job of representing the way things have been going in the Fishing industry. My father recognized some of the names that you mentioned as well as some of the boats. Keep up the good work.
Hi Mary Alice, I've read all of your books, and enjoyed them, immensely. You certainly are gifted, for speaking, as well as writing, and I'm grateful to you for sharing with us. I was at your signing at the winery on Friday, and met your lovely sister. I would like to thank you for signing before the discussion. It worked very well. This was my second signing, and I'm looking forward to many more. Have a great year! Sincerely, Betsy Fitch
Hi Mary Alice, It was so great meeting you last Friday at Silver Coast Winery. It was my pleasure to make your acquaintance. I thoroughly enjoyed your oration on the new book. Just want you to know that your passion for the written word is inspirational to all us wannabes. You have a lovely spirit which shines through in each of your books. The pictures I took turned out good. Should you want to see them, I would be glad to email them to you. Thanks for posing for the personal picture of you, Pat and myself. I shall treasure it. I had mentioned to you an author I think you might enjoy-Barbara Bickmore. Her books are what I would call Women's Fiction. They each are sagas with history included, each one in a different setting in the world. She resides in Mexico. Not certain that she is still writing. Most of her books were written in the late 80's and 90's. Keep writing great books for all us romantic, sentimental Southern women. Hope to see you next year. WE LOVE YOU HERE! Sincerely, Jenny Belk
I read The Beach House after meeting you on Kiawah Island at your book signing several weeks ago. I could not put it down, and as soon as I had finished it, I ran out to get a copy of Swimming Lessons. I just finished it and am writing to say that I desperately hope you feel inspired to write another book centered around the same characters. For now I will start on Sweetgrass. I don't think I will be able to keep from wondering what happens next in the lives of Cara, Brett, Emmi, Troy, Lovie, and Ethan though. I feel as if I know them.
Just finished Last Light Over Carolina. What a good book. I enjoyed it so much. Have a great summer and good luck with any new projects. Looking forward to the next book
I just became a fan ( big time ) of MAM & can't get enough of her. What a refreshing change & she makes reading not only educational but feels like you're visiting with family & close friends. Love her ~ love her ~ love her. I'm hooked on her like I am/was Maeve Binchy, Rosamond Pilcher, Luanne Rice & Elizabeth Berg among others.
Thank you for never disappointing me with your incredible writing. I finished "Last Light Over Carolina" the same day of purchase. It was wonderful! I spend 4 weeks every summer with my parents in North Myrtle Beach (Longs)and never tire of the beauty and solice the region offers. I'm an elementary school librarian and on my most trying days of school I remember these trips to SC. I was disappointed to have missed your appearance but my schedule demanded my return to Colorado. Both my mother and I are huge fans of your writing. We recommend you to all of our friends. You have new fans in Colorado. My mother in particular is fascinated with your life. She too visited Japan and thoroughly enjoyed her stay. Unlike you, she was only able to visit. "The Beach House" is not only my favorite book of yours, it's my most favorite book. I also have "Turtle Summer" in the library at school. I read it aloud yearly. Thank you for your wonderful books! Always, Jacqueline Rusho
Dear Ms. Monroe: I truly hope your book "Last Light over Carolina" is very successful for you. However, I do not think you have told the entire story of shrimping from a boat. You probably did not include a chapter about the death of all of the thousands of pounds of fish that die in the nets and on board the boat whenever they are droped onto the boat deck to seperate the fish from the shrimp. I do not want to stop the local shrimping. I want to dtop the wasted death of all of the types of fingerlings that are trapped and killed in the nets. Your picture of the reear of the shrimp boat on your web-site says it all. The birds are always there to eat all of the dead fish as they are shoveled over the side and into the water. If you do not want to tell the whole story I understand as so many others do and are afraid to be politically wrong. Sincerely, Louis
I've enjoyed reading all of your books and I also enjoyed your presentation at the Dockside Restaruart on Wed., July 29th. I live in Hilton Head and am in a book club here on the Island. I think you books are very timely and informative about the low country. Keep it up. Looking forward to the butterfly book.
I just finished, "Last Light over Carolina". I requested it from my library as soon as it was possible. I read it in one night. I have read everything Ms Monroe has written and have never been disappointed. I simply love her work. She writes with so much depth and feeling. Nothing is ever trite. I have no favorite book of hers, they all are. Now I will just wait for her next one. I will rush this book back to the library so someone else can read it. Thank you, Mary Alice Monroe. Peggy Forsythe
Hi Mary Alice I talked to you at the Dockside luncheon about contacts in WI when you do your book tour there. I could put you in touch with 3 or 4 friends in different book clubs. Before I contact them about you gettin in touch with them, I would like to know exactly what you are looking for or to do. My friends and I very much enjoyed your talk today as well as visiting with Ruth. As for myself, I felt as if I had been moved back to the Midwest for the afternoon. I will be talking to my friends as soon as I understand your intentions. I loved the song. Janet Morris - Hilton Head
Ms. Monroe, I have purchased all of your books for my mother. She just loves your books!! She is always looking forward to your new books. She tells me that she wishes you would write more. If possible could you contact me via email and then I could give my mothers address and if possible you could drop her a note. She would just love a note from you. She reads your books and enjoys them so much. It is one of her few escapes from taking care of my father who has dementia. Thank you for writing your books and allowing my mother to have a small time to use the reading of your books as an escape.
Just finished reading Last Light overCarolina. Fantastic read! My sister used to live in the little village. I live in N. Charleston so I really enjoyed reading about the local places and people. Best book yet. Sending to my sister tomorrow.

Mrs. Monroe, Our family-myself, husband and 3 children (ages 5,6 &10) had the thrill of a lifetime last evening. While vacationing in Litchfield Beach, we walked over to a crowd of people on the beach. To our delight, we discovered sea turtle hatchlings paddling their little fins toward the water. There were a group of turtle ladies (and gentleman) supervising this miracle. I cannot tell you how excited we all were. I may have been more elated than the kids!! Had I not been a big fan of your books, I may not have known just how special this event was! It just so happens that I had started reading "Swimming Lessons" (my Mother's autographed copy where she met you in Sumter, SC) I have read Beach House, and my absolute favorite book of all time is Sweetgrass! My 10 year old daughter came back to our condo and started writing a book right away about rescuing sea turtles. Thank you for your books and for being such a beautiful voice for God's wonderous creatures! Regards, Melanie B. McLeod
Last Light Over Carolina was amazing, I've grown up in the Charleston area, been to the Blessing of the Fleet, and seen many of the places mentioned. I couldn't stop reading novel. I pictured it as a movie in my head the whole time
I might have been a little disappointed in some of my summer reading. But NOT with Mary Alice Monroe's Last Light over Carolina!! Her Plot, Characters, Description - all were so captivating. What a great read!
All your books are wonderful. The beach house with the information about the turtles made such and impression on me. I have loaned this book out to at least 12 of my finds who are now Mary Alice Monroe fans ! Thanks for your lovely and insightful work!
I love your books! We recently read Time is a River for our book club. It was just fantastic! Since then, I have read "The Book Club" and "The Beach House". They were both excellent. Please keep them coming!!!
I am the president of the local Berkeley Reading Council. The video of you fishing and the story you introduced reminded me of the words I speak to my second graders when I read to them. I always tell them to listen and find a lesson in life. Now, the big question. Will you come and speak at a council meeting? We would love to hear your stories and sell your books.
Dear Mary Alice, I just wanted to tell you that I received your newest book last week. I had it ordered on Amazon and was thrilled that it has arrived. I am finishing a book now, but cannot wait to start yours. I want to thank you for gracing us with yet another of your books. You know how much I love your works. I am very excited to start this new book. I will write to you as soon as I read it. I hope after a little rest, you will start another for next year. Thank you so much for the joy you bring into my life. Your biggest fan, Shirley Herson
Hello Mary Alice Monroe fans!! I just finished reading "Swimming Lessons" and am sobbing like a child as I write! Not because I am sad, but for the incredibly bittersweet ending. Toy, you go girl! I am a bit behind in my reading, but I plan to read Mary Alice's next book installments. As a New Jersey shore resident and a lover of nature, Mary Alice provides a better understanding and a clearer perspective of how important nature and our ecosystem is to human kind. Thank you for your wonderful writings, Mary Alice - keep those inspiring books coming! Leslie Kayes, Mays Landing, New Jersey
Hi Mary Alice, I read Last Light over Carolina and I loved it. I always learn some new things about life in SC from your SC bases books. This one was so good I read it in a little over one day. Thank you so much for writing such wonderful novels for me, and your other fans, to read and enjoy. I see you have a jam packed touring schedule so I know it will be awhile before you can send me a signed book plate for this book. I hope you get to Greenville again to talk and sign at Barnes and Nobles. Have a great day. Hugs, Mary Ann Barnes
As a Lowcountry girl I thoroughly enjoy reading about our area, heritage, and our coastal environment, interwoven into a wonderfully page-turning story. The books are a fabulous introduction about our area, concerns and our upbringing I so love to share with those unfamiliar. Thank you for bringing attention to what we Lowcountry natives treasure and need to preserve.
See you soon, dear friend
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YOUR BOOKS. THANK YOU FOR GIVING LIFE TO ALL YOUR STORIES.
I was able to attend the book signing held just last Wed. at Barnes/NOble Ashley Rd. in Charleston. My daughter attended together. We were staying at Folly Beach last week. Bothe of us were so glad to be able to meet you. Both of us have enjoyed reading your books for several years. Thank you for such wonderful stories. Barbara McCants
Mary Alice - I met you briefly at your book signing at Edisto Beach, and mentioned that we had 3 loggerhead nests at the Edisto Beach State Park. You were interested in their probably hatching dates. These nests were discovered on 5/29, 6/7, and 6/17 - so count 55 to 60 days from those dates. The first could "boil" as early as 7/24 (55 days). - jacquie miller -
I HAVENT READ ANY OF YOUR BOOKS YET,BUT THEY LOOK VERY INTERESTING.I PLAN TO READ THEM ALL. MY HUSBAND AND I LOVE CHARLESTON AND SAVANNAH AND I ENJOY READING ANYTHING RELATED.
You are right. SC is a wonderful place to live. I live in Columbia now, but I moved here from Georgetown so I know the lowcountry well.
Hello! We will have our traditional two gatherings of authors on the Saturdays during Family Weekend (October 3, 10:30am-2:30pm) and Homecoming (October 17, 10:30am-1:30pm). These are our two highest traffic days of the year and a great opportunity to meet other regional authors--and maybe even sell some books! We'd love for you to be here! Please let me know if you would like to join us for one (or both) of these events! Thanks! Angela Angela Hollis Furman University Bookstore
Cannot wait to get my teeth into this book! Sounds delicious
We are looking forward to your coming to Emerald Isle Books on Aug. 3rd. We are planning for you to sign from 2-5. Curt Finch, Owner
Love Love Love your books and "when" I become a grandmother...the name I have decided to be called is grandma lovey!! Thanks for making me a turtle lover!
I HAVE ONLY READ A FEW OF YOUR BOOKS, BUT, LOVED THEM & PLAN TO READ MORE & THE NEW ONE COMING OUT SOON. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU SIGN ONE FOR ME, IT IS "TIME IS A RIVER", I WAS TOLD BY A VERY GOOD FRIEND THAT YOU MIGHT SEND ME A BOOK PLATE SIGNING THAT I COULD PUT IN THE BOOK. I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IT IF YOU COULD DO THAT FOR ME & THANK YOU SO MUCH, AS IT WOULD MEAN ALOT TO ME. I ALSO HAD BREAST CANCER & THIS BOOK WAS JUST WONDERFUL TO READ. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! LOVE, BONNIE
I'm on Tuesday's blog tour for LAST LIGHT OVER CAROLINA and I loved the way the story unfolded. The characters are fantastic too. I'm another reader in the Greenville, SC area who's disappointed that there aren't any appearances here - can you sneak in a signing when you're here for SIBA in September?
Congratulations on your new book and I can hardly wait to read it. I am a great fan and was totally astonished when you wrote me back a letter a few months ago. My friends couldn't believe it. I have a number of friends who are reading your books. They are not readily available at used book stores as I think people like to keep them. They are learning tools. I learned about turtles and raptors and now it looks as if I will learn about shrimpers!!
Have a successful book launch. Maybe you will find some time to put your feet up and enjoy the summer.
Your books are so awesome; every time I finish one I think to myself "this is my favorite," but then the next one comes along and I have a new favorite! Am really looking foward to Last Light over Carolina! Hope you will have a book signing in the Atlanta area one day soon!
I was at the Moveable Feast today in Pawley's Island and really enjoyed your talks. I wanted to ask you if you have considered a companion or sequel to Time Is a River. I loved that book and would love to know what happens to Mia.
I have read every one of your books and can not wait to read Last Light over Carolina. My husband and I celebrated 48 years on the 4th of July!!! He is my best friend, through sickness. Joe has had his voice box removed for cancer in 1986, and he never complains about a thing. Marriage is ging through the tough times and it making you stonger. Rita
Mary Alice. My first visit to your site. I read your book Time Is a River. It was so profoundly beatifully written. I too am a survior. I will be reading all your books in the future. Sincerely Lee
Hi Mary Alice, Billie Jo will be buying me your book next week. I don't see anything in the Greenville, SC area other than the big event. I was wondering if you could sign a book plate for me so I could put it in my book when I get it? I will miss hearing you talk and read some out of the book and of course just getting to see you.
My Dear Mary Alice, I am so excited about your new book coming out soon. I am signed on to Amazon to buy a copy when it is released. I think I am one of your biggest fans and have so enjoyed all your books. They are wonderful! I loved each of them so much and could not wait until the next one came out. I thank you for all of the wonderful hours spent enjoying your novels. Please keep them coming and I will keep buying them Much love to you and your wonderful family, Shirley Herson
Mary Alice, I began reading your books several years ago when I saw a book written by you at the bookstore in Charleston on King Street. I have read each book you've written and am looking forward to this new story. Not only is your writing a way to escape from everday life, but it also teaches the reader about nature and life in general. PS I too sit on Hilton Head Island many times a year and wonder about the life of those shrimp boat captains and all their families at home.
I love your books!
Yeah!!!! Your'e coming to Edisto the same week we're there this year. We missed you last time by a few days and can't wait to get the new book with your signing. Love you work!!!! Penny White
Thank you for the gift of Time is a River. I am a breast cancer survivor, a past participant of Casting for recovery and as I prepare to lead my first CFR retreat this weekend on Long Island, I turned to your book for inspiration- I will be sharing your book by reading aloud portions- not the least of which are the chapter heading quotes that are wonderfully defining of the fly-fishing experience. Thank you again, Mercedes Toro
Read Sweetgrass last summer and finished The Book Club last night (it was so neat to have started reading The Book Club and ended the book in line with the timing of parts of the book(early July)....LOVED both books and already miss the ladies of the Book Club...I keep worrying about Annie and have to remind myself that the book is fiction...so like real life though. Best Wishes. Look foward to reading the rest of your novels:-).
Are you doing a followup book to Time is a River with Mia and Stuart?
Hello Mary Alice Monroe, I have just finnished BEACH HOUSE FROM 2002 AND FOUND IT TO BE ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFULL i HAVE EVER READ...thank-you so much!! cher
I love your books and have read all of them!
I'm so anxious and excited to read this book. I hope it won't be long before it will be out. I just love all your books. You're the BEST! Bess
Last weekend, my cousin and his wife visited from Maryland. She told me about reading your books, so I immediately went to our local library and checked out "Sweetgrass".....I'm enjoying it so much and can't wait to read others by you. Hopefully, someday, I can get to one of your book signings. Keep up the good work. I look forward to many hours reading your wonderful books about the south. Pam Boles, King, NC
I just finished reading "Time Is a River". I'm sure I am only one of hundreds of breast cancer survivors who has written to say "thank you". I read this book in one day and even turned my light on again to finish the last 80 pages or so! I didn't want to wait until the next day to finish. This story, your descriptions is the closest I have come to reading anything that does justice to describing my own feelings about breast cancer. I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing something that rings with such truth and resonates with empathy, depth and the hope of survival and restructuring life when we fear it might be lost to us. Sincerely, Sherry Smyth Toronto, Ontario, Canada
I am the Arizona Program Coordinator for CFR. I just read the 1st chapter exerpt of Time is a River. Great book! My late father lived in Wilkesboro, NC for over 35 years and I love the call of those mountains. I'm eager to read the rest of the story. I 'd very much like to get 10 copies of Time is a River to gift to retreat staff members who volunteer their time to help breast cancer survivors. May I request a discount if all go to one address? Thank very much, skj
Hi Mary Alice, I'm so excited about your new book that July 14th won't come fast enough for me. Billie Jo bought a condo and moved about 10 minutes from me. I miss her being at home but I know it was way past time for her to be out on her own. I looked through your schedule of events. I wish the September one included a signing at Barnes & Nobles. Maybe you could send me a signed book label or two to put in my new book when Billie Jo buys it for me. Thank you so much for writing such wonderful novels. I always feel like I am right there with the characters whenever I read your books. I hope to see you again sometime in the near future. Have a safe but fun 4th of July. Hugs/Love, Mary Ann Barnes
Looking forward to this read and to hopefully a nest on our end!
I just finished The Beach House, my first book by Mary Alice Monroe. It is my book club's current pick to be followed by Swimming Lessons for next month. I can't wait to start the new one and will definitely be following with the others! I loved this book!!! So many emotions, such good writing, such a desire to keep reading. I have become a fan! Connie
I have been fortunate enough to be able to read and review "LAST LIGHT OVER CAROLINA". I must compliment your work. Well done! I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Love your books. Was wondering when the next booksigning will be. I`m hosting a camp for granddaughter, niece, and grandnieces on the Whale Branch River near Beaufort. I would love for them to meet you if you are in the area this week. Some of them are from Atlanta. I`m trying to instill Lowcountry doctrines by crabbing, reading southern authors, and eating grits. It would be such a thrill to see you while they are Camp Whale Branch.
I have truly fallen in love with your books. I have read every one of them. I just finished Time is a River. How bizarre that one of the characters has ALS - My dad recently passed away after suffering for 2+ years with ALS. Your books inspire me...I can't wait to go on a fly fishing trip, even though I know nothing about fly fishing. Gosh, how desperate I am to find a "Belle" and a cabin the woods to do some soul searching and figure out who I am!! I met you at a Sam's Club in Jonesboro, Georgia (south of Atlanta)...each book touches my heart in a special way. I will be waiting for July's release of the newest book! Christy Daniel
The first book of yours I read was "The Book Club" and I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommended it to my neighborhood library staff. I just finished "Time Is A River." Oh my, I was so enthralled with the North Carolina mountains and rivers and fly fishing and Mia's and Kate's stories. I loved it! Now by my bedside is "The Beach House" to be started tonight. I guess I will be spending the summer reading all of your books...and that's a good thing. Makes me want to move South which is where my husband has always said we should go. Maybe he was right. Anyway, I love your writing. Thank you for the not only wonderful stories but the information at each chapter's beginning. I love those. Thanks again. Sue Ann Kayser
I just finished reading "Time is a River." Wonderful, marvelous, outstanding I have read all of your other books but this one really got to me. I am a 22 year breast cancer survivor so have a great deal of emphathy with Mia. I don't fish (or have any desire to) but can identify with using something like that to heal the emotional fallout of breast cancer. I am convinced that becoming emotionally whole is the only way to survive long term. What a wonderful book. I got it from the library but may go out and buy a copy so that I can reread it again and again. Thanks.
Read most of your books. Loved all of them, especially Time is a River. Can't wait for July 14th.
I absolutely LOVE each and everyone of your books! My favorite is Beach House and I have every one of my friends reading it. I myself have read it three times. I can't wait for your new book to arrive on the shelves July 14th! Oh happy summer!
I was blessed this past year to read Time is a River, what a wonderful book. Having read that book I was interested in reading your other books, I am almost finished with The Beach House. I believe I love it even more. I am fascinated with the turtles and would love to come to see them sometime. I live in Texas. I have two more of your older books coming my way and I plan on purchasing your newest one very soon. You have become one of my favorite authors, joining the company of Barbara Delinsky, Sheryl Woods, Nora Roberts, Anita Shreve and Luanne Rice.....your books touch my soul. Thanks for the great reads and I look forward to catching up with your past books so that I may continue to read many many more in the coming years! Kay
I read your book (a couple of years ago) about the loggerheads, ect. (THE BEACH HOUSE), shared it with my sister (Susan Daley) , who has found her calling! She is part of the turtle team this year after moving to Mt. Pleasant last November. You've got a devoted (and you are going to find very valuable) member there in her and she found her first tracks/nest yesterday and sent me pictures! I love your books--you are an awesome writer...and can't wait for the new one! Lauren Long
I have read three of your books this month, and I am going to the library to look for more!
Mary Alice, I'm not sure if you remember me, but I work for Barnes and Noble in Fort Myers, Fla. and our store #2711 has not received an ARC of your new title Last Light Over Carolina, I would love to read it prior to it's release, wondering if you might be able to get the publisher to send a copy? Love your books and I enjoy pushing them out the door. If you're ever in the area again do let me know we would love to have you stop by the store.. Thank you so much, Donna Williams
Love the author. Being from Georgia, I can relate to the things this author is writing about. I have enjoyed all of her books! Just found out she has two more books written under the name Mary Alice Kruesi. Just ordered them!
I read Time is a River this past February while on jury duty-came home on one of those days and made reservations to go to Asheville and try fly fishing. The time between February and June went fast- just got back from Asheville yesterday- had a blast with Andrew from Asheville Drifters. Incredible experience-hope to return someday!
I just love your books, my favorite was Time is a River. I could not put the book down, I lent to a friend and she could not put it down. Thank you for writing about wonderful woman. I also want to thank you for writing in a way that lets your learn new and interesting things about nature.
Mary Alice: I just finished reading my vey 1st MAM book; Time is A River. TIAR gave me a new appreciation for my own selfworth, happiness and peace. I know you must've hear this a thousand times, but thank-you for choosing to author these inspiring books!
Love your books!
What a great book, I grew up in Asheville and my family was always fishing.
I just loved your book "The Beach House" and just finished "Swimming Lessons" the sequel. Please tell me that you are going to do more sequels to these tew books as this family is wonderful. Very well written. I definitely have enjoyed reading them. All the Best, Ms. Cheryl Parris
Mom & I enjoy your books. I thought I read somewhere that you had a book scheduled for May, Last light over Carolina????
I just finished reading "Time is a River" and it was a wonderfully moving experience. Thank you. I am a breast cancer survivor (28 yrs.) and went to one of the first Cast for Recovery sessions held in Millbrook, NY. Gwen Perkins, the founder of Cast for Recovery asked me to particpate in a session along with several women from Vermont. That was an exciting and emotional few days and though I never did become I fly fisher I learned a lot about myself that weekend My husband worked for Orvis beginning in the late 70's and retired in l988. Then he continued to teach fly fishing and wing shooting until the year before he died. Your book evoked lots of memories and you certainly hit the mark in so many instances. Our marriage became stronger after the breast cancer and compassion for one another continued to grow through the many obstacles...many of them illnesses...we faced. We would have celebrated our 60th anniversary this year but my husband died late in 07. His memorial was on the banks of the Battenkill River, in Shushan, NY where we lived for over 40 years and where he fly fished and spent many hours in solitude on his beloved river. Thanks for a walk down memory lane and for your gift of bringing deep feelings to the printed page that I related to in many ways. Sincerly, Natalie Slohm
I just finished Time Is A River and I LOVED it. Your writing made me feel as if I was there! I think I'm in love with Stuart (just kidding). I want to go buy a cabin right this minute. Thanks for the lovely storytelling.
I have been a fan of your books for many years. "The Beach House" is among my top five favorite books of all times. I attended a Casting for Recovery retreat in Gatlinburg, TN a few weeks ago, and a signed copy of "Time is a River" was given out as a door prize. I was not fortunate enough to win the copy, but was so excited to hear about this book! I went out and bought it and started reading it today. I am a two year breast cancer survivor, diagnosed at age 30. I am so thankful for you for shining a light on Casting for Recovery, and also for talking about a YOUNG woman with breast cancer. We are at ages where everyone says, "you are too young to get breast cancer." Unfortunately, that is not true! Thank you for writing about this topic and for being a supporter of CFR! I know I will not be able to put this book down, and when I do, I hope to return to the river. . .
Time is a river was an amazing book especially since I am in the middle of treatment for breast cancer.....Mia expresses many of the things most of us feel as we make our journey through treatment ....thank you for such a wonderful book.....
I just finished Sweetgrass and loved it. I have The Beach House lined up next! I love SC stories as we travel to Fripp Island SC at least once a year beautiful place. Thanks for the books!!!
I have read a couple of your books. I enjoyed them immensely. I plan to purchase the others to read over the summer. It takes a special person to weave a tale that keeps the reader glued to the pages to see what happens to the characters. You bring the character to life as if the reader knows them personally. Thanks!
I have not read any of your books yet, but a friend told me how wonderful your are. I plan to buy one ASAP.
Enjoy the stories...and the learning experiences. When will you plan to be in AZ 2009-2010? I belong to an AAUW book club.....we would love to meet you!
I'm not sure that you will remember me, but I work for Barnes and Noble in Estero, Florida. I was present at your book signing along with Linny and Suzzane. I just finished the arc book of Last Light over Carolina, and as usual it was poignant, perfect and kept me in its grasp until the last words of the book appeared and I longed for it to continue. Having grown up and lived in the south, visiting the beaches and understanding the people I always feel as if I have returned for a brief visit. Thank you for inviting me home again. Awaiting your next. Love, Victoria
These are the most heart warming books I have ever read. I cannot wait for the new one to come out. Everytime I read the Beach House I cried like it was my mom. That is the most wonderful book I have ever read.
READ ONE OF YOUR BOOKS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. OH MY GOSH ! I FINISHED IT IN A DAY & IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE BOOK STORE & BOUGHT ALL OF YOUR BOOKS THAT THEY HAD.YOU ARE BY FAR THE GREATEST AUTHOR EVER. YOU WRITE WITH YOUR HEART & THAT TRULY IS DIFFERENT. I LOVE YOUR STYLE & COMPASSION FOR ALL OF YOUR CHARACTERS. THANK YOU SO MUCH. CAROL
Anxiously awaiting "Last Light .... " I worked one week a month in McClellanville years ago for a very wealthy lady who owned a "plantation house" there. I had some interesting experiences I'll never forget. Nanc
This book Time is a River is one of the best I have ever read. The way it is writen it just makes me feel as if I am there with her. I look forward to reading your other books.
Our Book Club, The Page Turners, has been reading "Time Is A River" during April. We have all be totally taken in by Mia's story and Kate Watkins' story. What a beautiful story set in a gorgeous location! We will be reading many more of your books in the near future. Thanks! We live in Cadillac, MI.
When will there be another "Lovie" and turtle book?
Just finished The Beach House -- the first book I've ready by Mary Alice Monroe -- and I LOVED it. Her writing style is wonderful. It's been a long time since I cried at the end of a book. I was thinking that it would be a good book to write a sequel to -- then I search on the Internet and found Swimming Lessons. Hurray!!! I get to spend more time with Toy and Lovie! Thanks!
I am half way through Time is a River now and I just wanted to stop by and say how much I am enjoying Mia's journey to recovery and your amazing description of the North Carolina mountains.
What a great discovery! I have read 4 MAM books and can't wait to read the next one on my list!
Thank you for the joy of reading your wonderful words!
I love your books
Dear Ms. Monroe:
I am Amy Rowe's (Shear Paradise) mother. Amy introduced me to your books and I now own the whole collection. Through your books I have learned a great deal about the low country, my new home.
I am looking forward reading all of your future books. Keep up the great work.
I read your book The Beach House and just fell in love with it. I can not wait to read your other books.
I love all of your books. I am such a huge fan and I can't wait to keep reading your work. Thank you for doing what you do.
I read your book The Beach House and just fell in love with it. I can not wait to read your other books.
I love all of your books. I am such a huge fan and I can't wait to keep reading your work. Thank you for doing what you do.
I have enjoyed reading your books and learning about the coast of South Carolina. I grew up on the coast of Maine and this is so different but it is the same ocean. I love your stories and right now am reading Time is a River. As a breast cancer survivor it stirs many emotions. Keep writing and maybe some day I will be fortunate enough to meet you at a signing.
I recently read Skyward. how did you happen to have Ella come from Rutland, VT?
Is there a sequel to The Four Seasons? A neighbor lent it to me last week and I find that I would love to read more about The Season Family. Thank you. CRS PS I am a Charlestonian!
I love your books and have read everyone of them since I was first introduced by Pelican Books store in Sunset Beach, NC. When will you be publishing the next.
I gave your Beach House to a friend who quickly finished that and started Swimming Lessons. She is hooked too! Everyone who reads your books are hooked.
Take care, Diane
Dear Ms. Monroe: I started Reading Time Is A River on Monday and have only put it down because my children and husband needed to be fed!Infact this afternoon I had to finish it so I have burned myself, as I did not realise I was sitting by the pool for 3 hours with no sunscreen !
Although I am fortunate to never have been ill I did feel a kin to Mia in some ways. I felt as though could picture the cabin and the town. I love North Carolina and hope to move to one of the small towns there one day. Thannk you for writing such a beautiful book, and leaving some 'parts' out. They do not necessarily make a book. I am looking forward to reading some of your other works. Thank you again, it was a lovely way to spend spring break
Hi Mary Alice! I met you at the Lowcounty Womens Authors booksigning last year and we talked about you possibly coming to the new Del Webb Community in Summerville to speak to our book club. We will be reading "Time is a River" in May and would LOVE to have you join us. You mentioned that you would be doing a tour for your new book this summer and would consider coming by. We would certainly love to host such an event. Please let me know if there is such a possibility, we would be honored.
Jackie Hy
I Just(10 minutes ago) finished reading Time is a River, and OMG, what a great book; I didn't want it to end! I so want Belle's cabin, or should I say Mia's cabin? Miss Monrow, your play on words is so beautiful, it leaves me breathless. Thanks for filling my days with such happiness. I read the "tease" of Last Light Over Carolina, so now begins the count down until it hits my local book store.
You are blessed with such an awesome talent, which brings such pleasure to so many.
Thank You.
The book Four Seasons is no longer available from the publisher. I work at Barnes and Noble on Hilton Head Island in SC. If we could get the book I know we could sell it. Is there any chance that you would consider reprinting this book? Thank you for your time.
I am a member of the Library Club on Kiawah Island, SC. Each January, the various book clubs on Kiawah have a joint meeting to which we invite an author to speak and sign books. I am organizing the joint meeting for January 2010 and am interested in speaking to you about your interest/availability to come to speak on Kiawah Island in January 2010.
When is your next book available..Lawn chair, Ottawa River booked...!!!
Mary-Alice,
I have just finished Time is a River. I, too am a breast cancer survivor. Unlike Mia, my husband has stood by me throughout all of this. i was diagnosed 3 years ago and am doing well. I live in Mount Pleasant up in Dunes West. We have lived in SC all of our lives, moving here from Spartanburg 5 years ago. Reading books that are about SC and close by are always of interest to me.
I just want to thank you for this book. I hope to learn to fly fish one day too.
Thank you,
Becky Hanna Jones
I have read three of your books, and I am looking forward to the others. I always check for your books, every time I go in to a book store. I love your stories, and love how I really feel like I am right there. I really want to go visit South Carolina and see the turtles and sweetgrass in person! Thank you for sharing your stories with us!
I am an avid reader, however I had never read one of your books until a few weeks ago. I read Time is a River. What a treasure! It was one of those books where you wish it would go on forever. I will definitely be looking for copies of your other books as well. I am sure I will love them all. You are a wonderful writer!!!
Kay
Time is a River was the first book I read of yours and I LOVED IT!! After completing I went back to read some of your other books and have just finished 2 more and learned sooo MUCH more about turtles. It is astounding what you include within your story lines along with the main characters. Also in Time is a River I never knew much about fly casting before but I sure leaned a lot. Thank you so much for all the beauty of your books. Looking forward to your next release in July 2009
I LOVED "Time is A River"...will you be writing a sequel to it? It would be so great to continue the story...thanks for the great books!
I just finished The Beach House which is the 1st book I read from your series. I must say I couldn't put it down and read it in record time. I have been traveling twice a year to Kiawah Island and keep close tabs on the Loggerhead Turtles and hatchlings every year. I have grown up in New England but have fallen in love with South Carolina and the Low Country. I enjoy reading local authors and have read Dorthea Benton Frank books, but during a brief a last month I visited Indigo Books and inquired about other local authors and she recommended your books and suggested "The Beach House" as my 1st. I am hooked and can't wait to begin another book in your series and continue on with all of them.
Take Care,
Sandie Williams
Your novels are a welcome reprieve from stressful days and worry filled nights.
I am currently reading Time is a River..and have come across something that bothers me..On page 127..while commenting on the family background of Mia's husband Charles..the words "Maybe knowing that was why he had so little ambition. Charles rested on his ancestor's laurels." were written. On page 136..when reflecting on why Mia and Charles did not have any children the words "She and Charles had talked about having children early in their marriage, but they were both ambitious with careers blooming and they decided to wait." were written. Are these not contradictory statments..less then 15 pages apart..about the character Charles..??If i am correct in my observations..i am most curious as to why i...a casual reader..caught this error..yet many people paid to do so..seemingly missed it..Any insight into this would be appreciated..
Mary Alice,
I just finished Time is a River and it was wonderful. I too felt like Mia and have a better outlook on the future for me. I quit a three year position in January for a new beginning and was able to get a position teaching the end of February. I start the end of March. I was uncertain at first but after the book and going to a dinner for part time faculty last night I am much more confident and know that I will enjoy the challenge. I have been a nurse for 40+ years but thhis is the first I have struck out on my own. Thank you for the strength and courage in the book to 'start over'. Sandy
Found your book by accident, Beach House,at a consigment shop and have now read, Book Club and beginning Four Seasons....Cannot put them down once started...and can't wait to find and get all others...Have loved to read since a young girl and like you, found this love in a small town library summers when visiting my grandmother in Indiana...Read all summer under an apple tree in her back yard and the ladies at the library became my mentors..Thanks for your books - they are wonderful...Suzanne
Just picked up Time is a River, my first Mary Alice Monroe - can't wait to dig into it especially now that I have found your site and seen the video clip - the first one - I have just discovered fishing and though I love to catch them and cook them, and eat them - it is true - what you said - it is more about being out! becoming part of my world! watching the current of the lake, noticing the trees, just BEING in my world! Can't wait to read the book now.
I am halfway thru Time is a River and I do not want it to end. Absolutely fantastic. I have always had a knack for putting myself in the books that I read. This one has actualy made me double check to insure that yes I do still have both of my breasts. I want to reach out and hug Mia. I want to slap the snot out of Charles for his callousness and cheating while she is suffering and recovering. What a turd.
I want to go out and buy all of the equipment to learn how to fly fish. And I am headed to the book store to find more of your books...
Thank you so much for the hours of wonderful, insightful entertainment that you bring.
Lisa
Thank you for all your books I have enjoyed them all. Time is A River came at the right time for me. I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer when i read your book . It was a good read at a time like this THANKS
I love your books
I am a member of the Friends of the Library in Monroe, NC. We are very excited about you visiting us on April 15th. Just finished reading "Girl in the Mirror" which I loved, and am almost through with "Time is a River". Can't wait to read more of your books. Love Them!
Love what books i have read of yours so far.
After reading a paperback of Skyward I was hooked on your style and while I have never been to the south, would consider visiting the areas you mention in each book. As a cancer survivor I have been most impressed with Time is a River. Bringing nature and attitudes of people concerned with it, helps us in such trying times when our economic condition seems to overwhelm us and we forget the simpler things in life. C
I am facilitator of the Washington County Breast Cancer Support Group in Abingdon, Va. We are a new group of two years and a small group of 20 members. I, myself, am a two and half year survivor. Last year, our small group raised $6000 for Relay for Life and hope to do better than that this year.
We have been putting together baskets to raffle off and also sell at silent auction in Relay. We are putting together baskets of gospel music, christian novels, teens books and childrens books. We hope to have all this done by the end of March and the lucky winners will be awarded at the Relay for Life on May 16th.
Would your organization be able to donate an item for our basket?
Thank you
Just read "The Beach House"-the first of your books I have read. Throughly enjoyed it---however, am questioning why you feel the need to use the "fuck" word--was not used until towards the end of the book and then used several times.....it did not add anything to the story...you do not need to use off color words to sell a book - the writing will sell itself. I hope you will consider only using appropriate language in the future as I would love to read more of your books but will not do so if the language is offensive.
Dear Mary Alice,
I am a Doctoral Candidate at Stockholm University School of Business in Sweden and I also work as a teacher at the Publishing Studies Programme at the Department of History. Maybe you are interested to know that I have picked out your novel The Book Club as a small case study in the last part of my dissertation thesis. The thesis is not at all finished yet, but I hope to work really hard in the summer so that I could defend it in October. I keep my fingers crossed...
All my best wishes to you!
Yours sincerely,
Pamela Schultz Nybacka
I'm a local here in Charleston, I had been wanting to get into reading again and was in Wal-mart looking at books when I saw Time Is a River. I read the back and it sounded pretty good so I bought it, I fell in love with it. The day after I finished it I rushed to Barnes and Noble to see if they had any of your other books and all they had was Swimming Lessons, I just finished it today and it was wonderful. Unfortunately if I want to read any of your other books i'll have to order them. Or I'll just wait for a new one! I hope its soon!
I just recently discovered your writing. Have read "The Girl In The Mirror" and am almost finished "Time Is A River". Loved them both! As a disabled woman I like how you have chosen a heroine who is not "physically perfect" and shown that she is worthy of love. I look forward to my next book!
Mary Alice,I have read all of your books but Time Is A River is in my soul.I am now reading it for the second time because I am going through a time of change. I pick this book up and read and I am soothed. Thank You We live north of Chicago and are daughter Colleen went to art school at SCAD in Savannah. Twice a year my husband and I would make the eighteen hour trek to pick her up. We would always stop in Ashville and spend time I have fallen in love with this area and hope to return someday. Looking forward to your new book, I will be the first in line !
Keep Writing, Debbie Pfiffner
Every year my daughter and I would spend the summers in South Carolina. The turtles became a part of our life. This was like stepping back in time for me. Thank you so much for this wonderful book!
I just finished Time Is a River, and didn't want it to end. I hope that Mia returned to Stuart...how about another book about them?
I have finished reading Time is a River. It is the first book I have read by Ms. Monroe and I hope to read her other books. Time is a River made me laugh, & cry, and I was happy that Mia was able to overcome the hardships in her life. Cant wait for the paper back version of Last Light Over Carolina.
Thanks,
Kat
I just finished "Time is a River" ... I can't wait to give it to my Mama (84) to read. This is the first of yours that I have read. Thank you so much.
Out here in California I'm not near a rushing river but I do have the Ocean close by which I do consider an inspiration soo tomorrow I think I'll take my two little dogs and go walk the beach.
I picked up Time is a River at Walmart because my sister-in-law and best friend is going through ovarian cancer and chemo at this time. Having been caught early the prognosis is very good. The cancer survivor storyline fascinated me and also having lived in SC and visted NC often knew I'd love the scenery in the books. It is the best book I've read this year. (am an avid reader)Couldn't believe it kept me reading into the night. Awesome! It has all the elements of a good read. Have since read Sweetgrass and plan to read more. Thank you for writing these books. You are a great storyteller, and I have a new appreciation for flyfishing and the coastal land (sweetgrass).
During a recent vacation i read 2 of your books -"time is a river" and "bookclub". i enjoyed them both very much and have passed them on to several friends.
i am embarrased to say that i was not aware of you as an author when i came upon your work. however, i know you now and i plan to read all of your work in the upcoming months.
While browsing through your titles in B&N, I noticed A long Road Home.......no information, no cover image......is this title still in print.....why is there no information on it?
Thanks
Your books are the best I have ever read. I am constantly waiting for your most recent. I can't wait until July 2009!
Debbie Bowles
Time is a River- I could not put this novel down. It was as if I were there "at the moment", living the life with Mia. Thank you for such a wonderful writing experience. I have read all your novels and after each I think this is the best. Then you there is another and its the best. Please continue and hopefully there will be a continuation of Mia's journey. Thanks again for helping bring me out of the darkness.
I have read all your books and eagerly awaiting Last Light over Carolina. When will it be published? Your stories grab me from page one. Thanks for sharing with all your fans Betty
I just finished reading Time is a River, first time read for you as an author and I loved it. I too love to fly fish, with my husband. We haven't done it in years but now I have a new love and appreciation for the sport and will get back into it. Thank you. I look forward to reading others by you.

It is on the sound Marsh side so i can enjoy the birds that stop by, I'm sooo excited! There is a Turtle Hospitol there that i'm excited to go see also and hopefully i can be a volunteer if they need any. Lori Barnes
Time is a River is the first book of yours that I have read and I loved it!! I look forward to more books to come.
I was given your novel "Time Is a River" by a friend I met on a trip to Costa Rico. She knew I was a CFR participant and was active with the Long Island, NY Retreats. I enjoyed the book and have shared it with members of my Local CFR. The book truly captured the feeling of empowerment that CFR gives to women in addition to the beauty of fly fishing. I have 2 friends who are applying for the summer retreats and I will recommend that they read the book before going. It is truly inspirational and captures the importance of the retreats (even though the importance might not be apparent at the retreat).
The Long Island CFR is planning a fund raiser for the end of April and I was wondering (hoping) that you could donate a signed copy of the the book for our auction. This would be a treasured gift. Many thanks for your wonderful novel. Susan Lustig
Mary Alice, Someone passed a book of yours to me and after reading it, I ordered six of your other books. I am reading the 4th one now and am savoring it. I love the way you write! Keep it up!
Judith Elliott
I've really enjoyed reading your books and always look forward to the next one coming out.
I just finished reading Time is a River - I am now a fan - can't wait to read all of your books.
: It was nice to share a meal with you in the lounge at the SC Book Festival, Mary Alice. I enjoyed meeting you.
Sincerely,
Laurel Blossom
I just finished my third book by MAMonroe. I love how she develops her characters, they become your friends. My first book was Time Is a River, then I met the Turtle Ladies. I couldn't get enough of them.
I am hooked! I just finished reading your book Time is a River. Now I can't wait to go out an buy your other books and read them. It was a book that was so hard to put down. Enjoyed every page of it!
Ms. Monroe,
I just finished reading your book, "The Beach House." This is THE most beautiful book I have ever read!!!
I could identify with Cara. My life has had exactly the same twists, turns, and heartache. I do need, and will, reconcile with my mother.
I also live on a barrier reef island, Palm Island_ off the southwest coast of Florida. I thought I knew all about the seaturtle and her babies, but I discovered that I did not. Thank you for teaching me so much more, and relating it all to motherhood, life, death, and much more.
I picked up your book by accident at the library. I will be purchasing more of your books.
Again, thank you for so much!!
Sue Sondrgelt
Your web page needs to be up dated.I am looking for information on your new book...Last Light over Carolina.I love reading your books, you are the greatest! What I love most about all of your books...you describe every thing so well ...I can picture everything you are writting about. I can see it as if I were there. What a wonderful gift you have. I can't wait to read the latest...when is it coming out...Pat
Is there going to be a follow up on Time is a River? It left me dangling like Alfred Hitchcock.
Are you a past participant of a CFR retreat? (we had our fundrasing meeting for the Long Island retreats tonight and one of the ladies told us about your book)
Thank you Linda
Time is a River is maybe the 4th Monroe book I have read. Love them all so much that a couple of days ago I bought 2 more in trade paper. I am from the foothills of the Smokies, consider Charleston one of the most beautiful cities in our great country, cheer for the sea turtles and would love to find a "sport" where nobody gets killed -- including me. Sounds like flyfishing might be a good one. Keep writing and telling our southern story.
Dear Mary,
I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW HOW i LOVE YOUR BOOKS.
ALSO IT SEEMS TO BRING ME HOME SINCE I AM FROM CHARLESTON,SC.

I love your books. Just finishing Time is a River and look forward to your next release.
I have lived in the Lowcountry of SC all of my life except for one year in 2007 I lived in Maggie Valley, NC so all entertwined segments of your books relating to South Carolina Lowcountry and around North Carolina are great reading for me.
Keep up the excellent talent you have in writing exceptional reading material for all of us!
Lin
I finished your novel Time is a River. I absolutely loved it. It was just like real life. Will you have a sequel to it? I fell in love with Stuart. Is he real?
I wish you would write a sequil to Time is a River. It's the perfect story to continue!
I am reading Time is a River , the first book of yours I have read..it is wonderful. I am going to look at past books when i get this one done. Thanks for writing it. I wish my mom was still living she loved to fish , but she passed from breast cancer 22 years ago. I know this book would have helped her deal with the health issues she had.
Time is a River is a great read. I hated for it to end! Tomorrow I'll go pick out another one of your books. You're a wonderful author.

Hello Ms. Monroe,
My name is Shari Allen and I am a parent and board member at Addlestone Hebrew Academy. The teachers and staff at AHA make learning motivating, exciting and challenging! Somehow they are able to provide one of the most nurturing environments at the same time. Reading is simply contagious at this school and the students can't seem to get enough good literature. Our school is in West Ashley and I wondered if you would come and do a presentation for the students, staff and parents. We are a nonprofit organization and give out a lot of scholarships, so we are on a tight budget. I thought it would be so interesting for the kids to meet an author from the Charleston area and I know we'd be able to sell several of your titles. What is the age range of your literature?
Hey Mary Alice,
I am sorta confused, it comes with age, it is usually OK. However I have two books here, both with the same story. The secrets We Keep and Sweetgrass are Identical. Did you just reintroduce a story and change the title? I really enjoyed the story. I am getting together with a friend tommorrow night, she is returning a book,I am anxious to hear how she felt about Skyward.
Have a good weekend.
Diane
Hi Mary Alice,
I just finished reading Time is a River. It was wonderful and emotional story! Loved the characters.I even cried when Mia was reading Kate Watkins letter at the end.
Time is a River is a second book of yours that I read,(first one was Swimming Lessons which I Loved ),that I went to my Library to see if they have any of your other books and I found 2 more.
I am looking forward to reading both books and can't wait for the Last Light Over Carolina to come out!
Best,
Ivka
Thank you for your lovly books that I've had opertunity to read i look forward to future reads
I have finished the Beach house, and am working on Time is a River, and Swimming lessons. I am fifteen years old, and have been blind since birth. Living in the south your writing really meant a lot to me. I am an avid reader and writer, and it really means a lot when one book or author stands out like this. I want to write when I get older, and your books have really encouraged me to write about the south. Before, I wanted to write a fantasy novel or a book that took place somewhere else. Your books made me realize how rich our southern culture truely is.
I just noticed you as an author the other day. We have the same name in common.
i just started reading "Girl In The Mirror"
great story
All of your books are wonderful - especially The Beach House which we will be discussing at my church's book club - Berea Frist Baptist Church, Greenville, SC This will be 3/11/09
this is my second time to read and love it just as much as the first time.
We will be using your book discussion questions as well as others (I will make up)
THANKS!
Anxious to read your new book.
Dear Miss Monroe:
I just finished reading "time is a river"...it was outstanding. I am so excited by the prospect of reading all of your other novels.
Its always such a thrill to find a new author who you enjoy. Also, I have been thinking about relocating to North or South Carolina after living in Pennsylania my whole life (I am 42 years old). Its especially interesting to me right now, that your books are about that area. I will cherish and enjoy every one...Thank you!!!
Julianne Young
A friend visited about a year ago and left Skyward for me to read. At the time I thought this was not the type of book that really interested me, preferring mysteries. However, once I started to read, I loved the relationships, family, friendships, discovering oneself, surviving obstacles. I became an avid Mary Alice Monroe reader and couldn't wait to start the next one. I have just finished Time is a River and loved it and decided I had to let you know how wonderful your stories are. I can't wait to read your next one! Thank you for providing me so much reading enjoyment. Lee Saah, Yorba Linda, CA
I have just finished Time is a River and loved it as much as I loved your other books. Write faster!
I first read "The Beach House." I was helping a friend take books out of the trunk of her car when I saw it. Since I love the beach, I asked her if I could read it. She said she it had belonged to her mother and she had no plans to read it. She gave it to me. I have been hooked on your books ever since. I am reading "Time Is A River " now. I am going to order "The Book Club" to read on the beach in May. I will be turning 60 this year, and I think I will enjoy reading the stories of aging women. There are so many layers to your books but what I love the most is the relationships you build. Keep writting. I can't hardly wait for "Last Light Over Carolina." North Carolina coast is were my husband and I go a couple of times a year to relax. I am sure that after reading that book; I will look at the shrimp boats with a different eye. Thanks again for your wonderful stories. Victoria
Mary Alice Monroe has without a doubt become my favorite author.[Time is a River] was hard for me to put down for a minute. Now I'm reading [ Skyward ] and it's the same. Heartwarming, a touch of romance and very informative book. Can't wait to read more of her work.
I just love your books & have bought several copies at a used book store & shared. I love the nature real life of your books & TIME IS A RIVER is the best yet. I belong to Lutheran Church book club so I inter-act with people that like to share what we read. May God bless you & your's in all ways, always with much love & togetherness. Sincerely,
Leroy
I loved Time is a River. It is a great book!!
Hello,
I love the Atlantic side and the southeastern part of the U.S.A. Your books have a way of making home sick for the ocean. I live in Michigan, but heart has always been in the South. The turtles, other wild life and humans all seem to be intertwined in your books, as in how life really should be! Your books have enlightened me to the seriousness in keeping the turtles SAFE!!
I am looking forward to your next book, and cannot wait to begin reading It.
Your Biggest Fan In MIchigan,

I just wanted to tell you how much I,my sister and my 2 daughters have thourghly enjoyed your books so Much. Keep up the good work and please keep writing. I am reading Time Is A River and loving it! THANKS SO MUCH.

Dear Mary Alice
I was walking through downtown Naperville & was deighted to see your name in print in the window of a local store.
Made me think of Dr. Kruesi & your family and hope this finds you all doing well. Not quite sure when I'll get to reading The Beach House (the kids are 6 & 3 now) but I am looking forward to it! Say hello to Dr. Kruesi & Clair for me.
Sincerely,
Cari (Kuhn) Hotchkiss
Needed a book to read while serving on Jury Duty in New Jersey-
grabbed Time is a River in the grocery store on the way to the courthouse.
By the end of the first day of reading/Jury Duty, I vowed to move on in life
(I've had my own challenges)- within 24 hours I'd made flight reservations
and fly fishing lesson reservations in Asheville!(I never take trips- I
rarely spend $ on unecessary things) This book is really striking a chord in
me!

Hi Mary Alice,
I don't know if you get to see these comments or not, but I wanted to thank you for taking time to visit with me Thursday morning at Tina Marrelli's house. I enjoyed meeting you and hearing your thoughts on writing and your mission to reach people through your novels. I wish I could have stayed to hear the end of your talk Thursday afternoon but my students at MCC were calling. I am serious about writing other people's stories, so do feel free to give my contact information to anyone who has a story to tell. Take care in Mexico. Vaya con Dios.
Debbie K.
(My story from our visit will be on www.bocagrandetalk.com on Feb. 12.)
Dear Mary Alice Monroe,
Thank you so very much for sharing and writing "Time is a River". After 13 years of taking care of my children and getting caught up with life's day-to-day tasks, I finally allowed myself time to start and finish a book. I'm so thrilled I found yours! It touched my heart in many ways and being someone whose spirit loves the Asheville and Charleston areas, I found myself swept away through your words and your story. I thank you for sharing this wonderful novel...being a former journalism student myself...I only wish my words would come close to the eloquent way in which you tell your stories.
With much admiration & respect,
Lisa Owens

Mary Alice,
I'm an avid book reader:) Amongst all the books that I have read; there are only a few authors that make profound works that I can't seem to put them down once I open and you are one of those incredible writers! I was explaining to my 8 year old son just last night an author can write such an amazing story that you feel that you are part of the story or at the least friends of the characters. Your books do that to me and I am looking so forward to your newest novel being released in July. I feel it will become dear to my heart since we too, are a family that fish in a very remote part of Alaska in the summers. What a different lifestyle. Thank you in advance to a novel that I know will fly off the bookstores shelves!
Sincerely,
Christa Erickson
I just finished Time is a River and would like to thank you for writing such a wonderful book. I too am a breast cancer survivor of 1 year and some of Mia's fears really hit home. Thank you for a story that is so accurate and so very uplifting.
I enjoyed all your books, especially Time Is A River. I am wondering if you are planning a sequel to find out what happens to Mia after she leaves Watkins Cove.
Time is a River was one of the best stories I have ever read.
I am a librarian in a small town and have enjoyed reading and sharing your books with friends and patrons.absolutely loved."Time is a River".....bloody marvelous !!!!!!!! will look forward to your next book.
6 yrs ago, I left my alcoholic husband, lost my job and had 2 girls to raise. One in 3rd grade and the other in 4th. A lady at the school new I was going through alot and gave me "The Beach House" to read. I had not read a book since I was in high school and really did not like to read. But I did read it and related very closely with the story. The next leg of my life lead me to Oregon to take care of my mom who was having heart problems. Anyway, I have gotten almost all your books and love everyone. I now read them over and over. Tough times have prevented me from getting Swimming lesons and Time is a River...but I will get them one day and add them to my library of your stories. Thank you for opening my eyes and mind to the world or reading.
Was so glad to read that you will have a new book out come summer. You write such great stories and I can't get enough! Thanks for the entertainment. You must lead a very full, worthwhile life!
Hi Mary Alice,
I got the info on Time Is A River going to paperback. The book was just wonderful and I so enjoyed reading it.
I did miss you not being able to be in the Greenville, SC area for a book signing ~ but the book plates you signed for me were just wonderful and since you did 3 of them ~ I could put the other 2 in other books.
I can't wait for this new book to come out and maybe your agent or whoever schedules your book tour stops can put Greenville on your list this time around.
Billie Jo and I enjoy hearing you talk and also read a bit from the book. You are so interesting to listen to ~ we could sit there for hours and hours.
I hope all is well with you and that you had a nice holiday season.
Please take care.
Love,
Mary Ann Barnes
Simply stated, your writing takes my breath away. Thank you
I have just finished TIME IS A RIVER and it was so good that I couldn't put it down. I had a sister who had breast cancer but she didn't survive so reading this book makes me wonder "what if". Her husband did stay with her through it all. Can hardly wait for the next book. Love them in paperback.

I recently discovered you through a friend who passed me your book "Skyward." As I was reading (and enjoying) your book, I went to Amazon and ordered three more of your books. You are a wonderful author and I learned much about birds while reading this very enjoyable read.

Will there ever be a sequel to Swimming Lessons??The stories about the turtles, and The Beach House are my favorite. Rita Amaral
I just read Time is a River - actually I read it one day and stayed up until one in the morning to finish it - I don't remember the last time I felt that way about a book. It was inspiring and hopeful and I relished every word. Thank you.
Hello! I purchased your book 'Time is a River' last night and started it. Wow! It has already HELPED me and entertained me. It is a definite synchronicity to find this book! I live in Hendersonville, NC, about 25 minutes from Asheville, and lets just say I am very sympathetic with Mia's pain. This will be a healing journey for me as well, and a fun one! I can't remember being pulled into a novel so completely! Thank You, Danielle
Could you please tell me if The Beach House was ever printed in a Hardback copy, which I am desperately looking for. Could really use your help. Thank you, Sherry Bequette
Mary Alice Monroe's books are captivating stories that leave an impression on the reader. It is fun discussing books with other people so I would love to belong to the book club.
"Time Is A River" was and is wonderful!! It was beyond inspiring to me. Thank you for the gift of writing it. It will become a permanent to my bookcase!!
Intending to read every book you have published, I have now completed two. I must tell you that the stories have taken me away. Dealing with the decending health of my parents and the upheaval of having them now live with me and my husband, I am finding your books a solace. Thank you, from my heart, for the Beach House and Time Is a River. My lifes dream is to live along a river in the mountains. In my mind you have taken me there. Thanks so much. I'm looking forward to the remaining and new books.
I have read several of your books and have loved them. The words you write come to life right in front of my eyes...
In one of your books it said that you wrote under another name, Mary Alice Kruesi, and named 2 books, One Summer Night and Second Star To The Right... I have looked everywhere for them and can't fine them or that name. Not even online..Can you help me??
an avid reader,
Sue
I just finished Time is a River, what a wonderful book - I can't wait to read the rest of your books. Thank you!
Dear Mary....
my wife was reading (Spring 2003) your book (THE BEACH HOUSE)and, taking into account the light conditions at that moment, I decided to take a picture of it. The picture is located at: http://www.fotosmundo.com/miembros/Campeador/mas-valoradas/foto_33941.htm
Taking care of my wife's comments... it's a geat book. I strongly recommed it to the readers!!

Love the books of yours I've read so far. You and Dorthea Benton Parker and Mary Alice Monroe have a knack for putting us on the beaches/marshes and so forth. Please keep them coming
I just finished "Time is a River"! OMG what a wonderful story. I started it and finished in a day with a little time out for sleep overnight. It was a Christmas gift from my daughter who lives on Kiawah Island. S.C. I'm a breast cancer survivor like Mia and could identify with many of the feelings she expressed. Through the descriptive language of the book it is so easy to see in my mind's eye the cabin, the mountains, the people in the story, and most of all the river. Thank you for a wonderul, precious story. I hated for it to end! Hopefully a sequel will soon be in the works and will continue the story of the the books characters. Thank you for another heartwarming and engrossing tale! It ranks up there with Sweet Grass and The Beach House. I've been on Turtle Patrol with my daughter and was able to closely identify with that story as well. What a gift you have! Thanks for sharing it with all of us!!!!! Peg
Ms. Monroe has done an excellent job developing her characters in The Beach House and Swimming Lessons. Is there a sequel to Swimming Lessons?
Thanks,
Elaine
Ms. Monroe,
For the past 18 years I have been going to the beach, Holden Beach North Carolina, with 7 other women that went to college and/or teach with me. We look forward to the first week of August each year to get together again. For some of us it is the only time we see each other every year. We eat, giggle, walk on the beach, go to turtle talks, are fortunate to see babies march to the sea each year and we read every other minute. We have so enjoyed your books. Patti Henry, Anne Rivers Siddons and Jodi Picoult are our favorites, but your books touch our hearts the most. Your last book, Time is a River was wonderful. Thankfully, none of us have had cancel. In the elementary school that 3 of us teach we have had 3 women who have had breast cancer so this book was share with each of them also.
We also read your book, Turtle Summer, to our classes each year.
Could you please tell me how I can purchase some bookmarks or anything about you or your books so that I can give them to my beach friends this summer?
Thank you for sharing your stories with us and we are looking forward to your new book!!!
